  1. 21. Finite element methods for multiscale/multiphysics problems

    Author : Robert Söderlund; Mats Larson; Victor Ginting; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finite element methods; variational multiscale methods; Galerkin; convergence analysis; multiphysics; a posteriori error estimation; duality; adaptivity; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we focus on multiscale and multiphysics problems. We derive a posteriori error estimates for a one way coupled multiphysics problem, using the dual weighted residual method. READ MORE

  2. 22. Aspects of Duality in Integer Programming

    Author : Tuomo Takkula; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with various problems arising when dualizing integer programs and combinatorial optimization problems. On the one hand, the corresponding dual functions are piecewise linear, calling for approaches from nondifferentiable optimization; on the other hand, the problems have special structures which can be exploited. 3. 23. Postcolonial perspective on international knowledge transfer and spillover to Indian news media : From institutional duality to third space

    Author : Zehra Sayed; Robert G. Picard; Michal Frenkel; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the ways in which postcolonial ambivalence – a symptomatic condition of postcolonial societies in which they simultaneously embrace and reject the cultural, political and economic processes and expressions of the “ex-colonizer” – plays out in current globalization. This dialectic may be particularly apparent in the transfer of knowledge from developed-country MNCs to subsidiaries located in formerly colonized, now developing countries. READ MORE

  4. 24. An Arranged Marriage under Institutional Duality – The Local Integration Process between Two Globally Merging MNCs' Subsidiaries

    Author : Roger Schweizer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; merger and acquisition; integration process; multinational company; subsidiary; institutional theory; institutional duality; relational context; arranged marriage;

    Abstract : "The thesis studies the local integration process between two globally merging multinational companies’ (MNCs) subsidiaries - a process, which is part of a concurrently ongoing global consolidation process and that has to be implemented in the two subsidiaries’ host country environment. The main question asked is how this specific setting influences the characteristics of the local integration process - such as the approach used, management styles applied, integration mechanisms employed, the physical and procedural solutions chosen, and not least the occurring human-related integration issues - as well as the outcome of the process. 5. 25. Asymptotics, weak convergence and duality in population genetics

    Author : Martina Favero; Henrik Hult; Alison Etheridge; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers on asymptotic results and stochastic duality for some processes in mathematical population genetics. The focus is on Wright-Fisher diffusions and coalescent processes, which model, respectively, the evolution of frequencies of genetic types and genealogies in a population,and play a key role in inference on genetic data sets.
