  1. 1. Concrete flat slabs and footings : Design method for punching and detailing for ductility

    Author : Carl Erik Broms; Håkan Sundquist; Mikael Hallgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction engineering; bent-down bars; building codes; cyclic loading; deflection; ductility; earthquake; Byggnadsteknik; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Simple but still realistic physical models suitable for structural design of flat concrete plates and column footings with respect to punching are presented. Punching of a flat plate is assumed to occur when the concrete compression strain at the column edge due to the bending moment in the slab reaches a critical value that is considerably lower than the generally accepted ultimate compression strain 0. 2. 2. Influence of microstructure on fatigue and ductility properties of tool steels

    Author : Mats Randelius; Rolf Sandström; Jens Bergström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool steels; fatigue; ductility; carbides; carbide cluster; inclusion; size distribution; modelling; FEM; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Fatigue and ductility properties in various tool steels, produced by powder metallurgy, spray forming or conventionally ingot casting, have been analysed experimentally and successfully compared to developed models. The models are able to predict the fatigue limit and cause for fatigue fracture, and strain- and stress-development until fracture during the ductile fracture process respectively. READ MORE

  3. 3. Toughness enhancement in transition metal nitrides

    Author : Davide Giuseppe Sangiovanni; Valeriu Chirita; Lars Hultman; Sergey Simak; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cubic; transition metal nitrides; mechanical properties; ab initio; dft; toughness; ductility; electronic structure; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Toughness enhancements can be induced in cubic-B1 transition metal nitride alloys by an increased occupation of the d-t2g metallic states. In this Licentiate Thesis I use density functional theory to investigate the mechanical properties of TiN and VN and of the ternaries obtained by replacing 50% of Ti and V atoms with M (M = V, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W) to form ordered structures with minimum number of inter-metallic bonds. 4. 4. Alloy Design and Optimization of Mechanical Properties of High-Entropy Alloys

    Author : Saad Ahmed Sheikh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ductility; topologically closed-pack TCP and geometrically closed-pack GCP phase; alloy design; mechanical properties; High-entropy alloys; refractory high-entropy alloys; valence electron concentration;

    Abstract : High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are described as alloys containing multi-principal elements in equal or close to equal atomic percentage. HEAs are considered as potential structural materials for high-temperature applications; where alloy design and optimization of mechanical properties is extremely critical. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanical properties of semi-solid Al castings : Role of stirring

    Author : Qing Zhang; Anders E.W. Jarfors; Stefan Jonsson; Tomas Liljenfors; Arne K. Dahle; Johan Ahlström; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rheometal™ process; aluminum alloys; stirring; segregation; porosity; oxides; ductility; fatigue performance; melt quality;

    Abstract : Aluminum castings have been widely used in the automotive industry to reduce the vehicle's weight. However, the existence of casting defects significantly limits its application. The most common and detrimental defects in aluminum castings are porosity and oxides. READ MORE
