16. Mathematical modeling in precision nutrition
Abstract : Precision nutrition (PN) aims to tailor diets for individuals or groups based on comprehensive data to improve prevention of diseases, such as cardiometabolic diseases. Predicting individual postprandial metabolic responses and identifying individuals with similar metabolic phenotypes (metabotypes) could guide tailored diet strategies. READ MORE

17. The Impact of Non-synchronous Generation on Power Systems Dynamics
Abstract : Due to the increasing integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), and the installation of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, more power is injected to the AC grid based on power electronic converters. This kind of power injection is called non-synchronous generation in this thesis. READ MORE

18. Active Control and Modal Structures in Transitional Shear Flows
Abstract : Flow control of transitional shear flows is investigated by means of numerical simulations. The attenuation of three-dimensional wavepackets of Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) and streaks in the boundary layer is obtained using active control in combination with localised sensors and actuators distributed near the rigid wall. 19. Detailed Numerical Simulations of Turbulent Premixed Flames at Moderate and High Karlovitz Numbers
Abstract : In generally accepted and applied flamelet combustion models, a turbulent flame is mainly assumed distorted by the large-scale turbulence eddies, whereas small-scale turbulence effects on the local flamelet structures are neglected. However, in a lot of industrial applications rather high turbulent intensities are often imposed, which induce turbulence scales at ranges smaller than the flame thickness. READ MORE

20. Modeling and Characterization of nonlinear Materials for Protection of Optical Sensors
Abstract : This thesis concerns nonlinear materials and experimental techniques for optical power limiting applications. Theoretical models to analyze and simulate related measurements were studied. Two different numerical modeling tools for propagation of optical radiation through optically nonlinear media were developed. READ MORE
