  1. 1. On the treatment of tibial shaft fractures

    Author : Abbas Karladani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cast; Distraction; Dynamometry; Fracture; Limb lengthening; Nailing; Outcome; Psychometry; Shaft; Soft tissue; Tibial;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate those factors, which have predictive value for development of complications after tibial shaft fractures, and to evaluate the outcome of the available treatment methods for closed, as well as open tibial shaft fractures associated with extensive soft-tissue injury. To determine the factors, which influence healing speed, we reviewed 100 consecutive patients with 104 tibial shaft fractures tibial shaft fractures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Velocity controlled dynamometry and gait analysis : development of methods and applications

    Author : Lennart Gransberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dynamometry; torque; measurement error; overshoot; isokinetic; concentric; eccentric; gait analysis; three-dimensional; electrogoniometer; electromagnetic tracking;

    Abstract : The isokinetic systems developed in the present study can measure torque in maximal voluntary and passive movements. The torque recordings may be combined with surface EMG recordings from pairs of antagonistic muscles involved in the movement. Healthy subjects and patients with spastic paresis have been examined. 3. 3. Kinetic chain weight training, strength assessment, and functional performance testing: with reference to sports and rehabilitation

    Author : Jesper Augustsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; open kinetic chain; closed kinetic chain; weight training; strength assessment; functional tests; anterior cruciate ligament; reconstruction; fatigue;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance in healthy individuals and patients after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Data are presented that concerns closed and open kinetic chain exercise, adaptive response to weight training, the methodology of muscle strength assessment, and the development of a functional testing protocol performed under conditions of fatigue. 4. 4. Single limb exercises in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : feasibility, methodology, effects and evidence

    Author : Andre Nyberg; Karin Wadell; Britta Lindström; Monika Fagevik Olsén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; elastic resistance; exercise capacity; health-related quality of life; randomized controlled design; single limb exercises; systematic review; study protocol;

    Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. COPD is a slowly progressive, inflammatory disease in the airways and lungs, caused mainly by smoking. The inflammation leads to a narrowing of the small airways (airway obstruction) and a destruction of tissue in the lungs. READ MORE
