  1. 1. Polycystic ovary syndrome : Long-term health aspects

    Author : Sofia Persson; Evangelia Elenis; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Sahruh Turkmen; Elizabeth Nedstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PCOS; Hyperandrogenism; Hirsutism; Fertility; Type 2 diabetes; Hypertension; Dyslipidaemia; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age, affecting many aspects of women’s health such as fertility, cardiovascular health and quality of life. However, less is known about later life stages, as well as the impact of hyperandrogenism and PCOS itself, apart from risks associated with excess body weight. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling of tolerance and rebound in normal and diseased rats

    Author : Christine Ahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : feedback modelling; tolerance; rebound; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; dyslipidaemia; nicotinic acid; non-esterified fatty acids;

    Abstract : The development of rebound and tolerance is an important consideration when optimizing medical therapy, both with respect to drug dosing and adverse effects. By using quantitative approaches to study these processes, potential risks can be minimized. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Author : Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 4. 4. Insights into the relationship between coronary calcification and atherosclerosis risk factors

    Author : Rachel Nicoll; Michael Henein; Gunilla Olivecrona; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; risk factors; atherosclerosis; stenosis; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Introduction Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common cause of death in Europe and North America and early detection of atherosclerosis is a clinical priority. Diagnosis of CAD remains conventional angiography, although recent technology has introduced non-invasive imaging of coronary arteries using computed tomographic coronary angiography (CTCA), which enables the detection and quantification of coronary artery calcification (CAC). 5. 5. Screening strategies for dysglycaemia in relation to cardiovascular risk

    Author : Bahira Shahim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Dysglycaemia, defined as type 2 diabetes (T2DM) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Dysglycaemia and CVD together account for more than half of worldwide mortality. READ MORE
