  1. 1. Molecular analysis of transcription factors in uropathogenic E. coli adhesin operons

    Author : Stina Lindberg; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Åsa Sjöling; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; UPEC; E. coli; F1C; P fimbriae; cross-talk; FocB; PapB; crystal structure; OMVs; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The main causative agent of human urinary tract infections is the uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) pathotype. It may cause disease due to its ability to express a number of bacterial virulence factors. Fimbrial adhesins are particularly important for the initial establishment of infection in the urinary tract. READ MORE

  2. 2. Protein production in the E. coli cell envelope

    Author : Thomas Baumgarten; Jan-Willem de Gier; Dirk-Jan Scheffers; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; protein biogenesis; recombinant proteins; membrane proteins; secretory proteins; protein displays; outer membrane vesicles; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins fulfil essential functions in every cell and malfunctioning proteins are often the cause of diseases. On the other hand, proteins like antibody fragments or hormones can be used to treat diseases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of translation in E. coli

    Author : Margareta Faxén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A cis-acting translational mutation in the beginning of the glnS gene was analyzed; this mutation creates a extra base pair to a proposed extended ribosome binding site. When increasing the complementarity to this extended ribosome binding site, it was demonstrated that the expression increased; correspondingly, when complementarity was decreasd the expression went down. 4. 4. Abiotic Stress Tolerance. Metabolic and Physiological Effects of Compatible Solutes and Calmodulin on E. coli and Tobacco

    Author : Jenny Lindberg; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Abiotic stress; compatible solutes; osmotic stress; osmoprotectants; trehalose; calmodulin; E. coli; N. tabacum; genetic engineering; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; glycine betaine;

    Abstract : In their natural habitats, bacteria and plants can be exposed to abiotic stresses such as drought, high salt concentrations and freezing, which are factors limiting their capacity for growth and proliferation. To withstand environmental stresses, they have evolved specific stress responses. READ MORE

  5. 5. Combinatorial Protein Engineering Of Affibody Molecules Using E. Coli Display And Rational Design Of Affibody-Based Tracers For Medical Imaging

    Author : Ken G. Andersson; John Löfblom; Stefan Ståhl; Harald Kolmar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; directed evolution; microbial display; E. coli; Affibody molecule; autotransporter; medical imaging; HER receptor family; Sortase A; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Directed evolution is today an established strategy for generation of new affinity proteins. This thesis describes the development of a cell-display method using Escherichia coli for directed evolution of Affibody molecules. READ MORE
