  1. 1. Vascular remodelling and circulating basement membrane fragments in abdominal aortic aneurysm

    Author : Mari Holsti; Malin Sund; Anders Wanhainen; Joakim Nordanstig; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AAA; extracellular matrix; vascular remodelling; collagen; inflammation; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a degenerative disease, characterized by advanced inflammation and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling. Enhanced protease activity mediated by cytokines results in the degradation of ECM proteins, leading to the generation of different bioactive fragments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation

    Author : Anna Löfdahl; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serotonin 5HT ; Serotonin class 2 receptor antagonist; Fibroblast; Pulmonary fibrosis; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Abstract : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis,there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 3. 3. Extracellular Matrix Remodelling-Proteoglycan and collagen turnover in arthritis

    Author : Anette Bjärdahlen; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arthritis; collagen; cartilage; myofibroblasts; pannus; proteoglycan; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; reumatologi; Skelett; muskelsystem;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory and systemic disease characterised by joint destruction and pannus formation. To enlarge the understanding how pannus and granulation tissue are formed two animal models were used; one using cartilage wrapped in cotton and implanted into a rat air pouch (AP) and one where mBSA induced arthritis (AIA) was performed. 4. 4. Remodelling of extracellular matrix in rectal cancer and preoperative radiotherapy

    Author : Eva Angenete; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : radiotherapy; rectal cancer; extracellular matrix; MMP-2; PAI-1; uPA; Calprotectin; TGF-beta1;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND Preoperative radiotherapy reduces local recurrence due to rectal cancer, but increases postoperative morbidity. The aim of this thesis was to study the impact of radiotherapy on extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling enzymes and growth factors after radiotherapy and also their possible use as surrogate markers for complications. 5. 5. Extracellular matrix remodelling proteases in acute appendicitis and their impact on appendiceal perforation

    Author : Anna Solberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; appendicitis; perforation; extracellular matrix; MMP-9; TIMP-1; uPA; PAI-1;

    Abstract : Abstract Background Appendicitis is associated with varying degradation of extracellular matrix involved in tissue injury. The principal aim of this study was to investigate whether immunoreactive techniques could illustrate the course and severity of appendicitis and separate the different inflammatory grades, phlegmonous, gangrenous and perforated appendicitis, from each other and from uninflamed appendix.
