1. Modelling ineffective erythropoiesis in myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblasts
Abstract : Myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblast (MDS-RS) is a clonal hematological malignancy characterized by accumulation of iron filled erythroblasts called ring sideroblasts in the bone marrow, and recurrent somatic mutations in the splicing factor gene SF3B1. The disease mainly affects elderly individuals, causing severe anemia in patients for which no curative treatment exists. READ MORE

2. The juvenile three-spined stickleback : model organism for the study of estrogenic and androgenic endocrine disruption in laboratory and field
Abstract : Industrial and domestic sewage effluents have been found to cause reproductive disorders in wild fish, often as a result of the interference of compounds in the effluents with the endocrine system. This thesis describes laboratory-based exposure experiments and a field survey that were conducted with juveniles of the three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus. READ MORE

Abstract : An increasing number of educational policies, academic studies, and university courses today propagate ‘interculturality’ as a method for approaching ‘the Other’ and reconciling universal values and cultural specificities. Based on a thorough discussion of Europe’s colonial past and the hierarchies of knowledge that colonialism established, this dissertation interrogates the definitions of intercultural knowledge put forth by EU policy discourse, academic textbooks on interculturality, and students who have completed a university course on the subject.
