  1. 1. Functional analysis of genes in the developing zebrafish pronephros and vasculature

    Author : Lwaki Ebarasi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : During glomerulogenesis, the recruitment and assembly of visceral epithelial cells (podocytes), endothelial capillary cells, and smooth muscle pericytes (mesangial cells) result in the formation of the glomerular tuft. The mature glomerulus functions by passage of plasma under hemodynamic pressure across a filter, the glomerular filtration barrier, and the integrity of the barrier is crucial for proper function. 2. 2. Clinical and molecular studies of liposarcoma

    Author : Katarina Engström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Liposarcoma; radiotherapy; prognostic factors; transfection; FUD-DDIT3; adipogenesis; microarray expression analysis; cell cycle; immunohistochemistry;

    Abstract : Aims: (1) To analyse clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and outcome of liposarcoma, and to determine whether, and how, the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG) treatment guidelines were followed; (2) to analyse tumour volume and morphology response after radiotherapy in myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MLS/RCLS); (3) to examine the role of the MLS-specific fusion gene FUS-DDIT3 in development of liposarcomas; and (4) to analyse expression patterns of cell cycle regulating proteins in MLS. Methods: (1) A total of 319 liposarcomas reported between 1986?1998 to the SSG Register were reviewed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Author : Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. READ MORE

  4. 4. The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit NR3A : cloning, expression and interacting proteins

    Author : Maria Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the subunit NR3A, which together with subunits NR1, NR2A-NR2D and NR3B builds the excitatory glutamate receptor N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). The receptor is most likely a tetramer, containing at least one NR1, probably two NR2 and sometimes one NR3 subunit. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular dissection of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase signaling in hematopoietic cells using RNAi

    Author : Juhana E Heinonen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : RNA mediated gene silencing, RNA interference (RNAi), has recently been identified in mammalians. This thesis describes the utilization and development of RNAi based tools for signal transduction research. The effects of Bruton s tyrosine kinase (Btk) down-regulation with RNAi have been studied with gene expression profiling in hematopoietic cells. READ MORE
