  1. 1. Cytokine responses in metal-induced allergic contact dermatitis : Relationship to in vivo responses and implication for in vitro diagnosis

    Author : Jacob Minang; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Niklas Ahlborg; Rik Scheper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal allergy; Contact dermatitis; cytokines; ELISA; ELISpot; Flow cytometry; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Transition metals such as nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), palladium (Pd), chromium (Cr) and gold (Au) are widely used as alloys in jewelry and biomaterials such as orthodontic and orthopaedic appliances. These metals also cause cell-mediated allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) reactions in a significant proportion of the population upon prolonged direct exposure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coeliac disease : Clinical and immunological aspects

    Author : Tony Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Coeliac disease; cytokines; TGF-beta; tissue transglutaminase; IL-4; IFN-gamma; TNF-alpha; ELISPOT; anti-endomysiumantibodies; anti-gliadin antibodies; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : A better immunological definition of coeliac disease and highly discriminatory serum markers are needed to identify children with early mucosal lesions and for rapid follow-up and a better knowledge of antigen reactivity and cytokine production will be needed to clarify the pathogenic mechanisms.The numbers of circulating IgAanti-gliadin antibody-producing (IgAAGA SFC) cells were increased in patients with untreated coeliac disease compared to controls and treated coeliac disease patients. 3. 3. The adenoid defender of the nasopharynx. A study of the cells in the surface secretion in the nasopharynx

    Author : Magnus Ivarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Adenoid; nasopharynx; leukocytes; surface secretion; ELISPOT; phagocytosis;

    Abstract : The adenoid is implicated in the pathogenesis of upper airway infections (UAI), but in a not yet understood way. In contrast to the adenoid tissue, the surface secretion on the adenoid, which contains not only pathogenic bacteria and viruses but also leukocytes, has attracted little interest. READ MORE

  4. 4. Amyloid-β Protofibrils in Alzheimer´s Disease : Focus on Antibodies, Inflammation and Astrocytes

    Author : Sofia Söllvander; Lars Lannfelt; Anna Erlandsson; Frida Ekholm-Pettersson; Linda Söderberg; Pär Gellerfors; Martin Hallbeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimer s Disease; Amyloid-beta; Protofibrils; ELISA; ELISpot; Astrocyte; Monoclonal Antibody; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Soluble amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregates, including Aβ protofibrils, play a central role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and constitute a potential diagnostic biomarker and a therapeutic target. Aβ protofibrils promote synapse dysfunction and neurodegeneration, but the mechanisms behind these effects remain unclear. READ MORE

  5. 5. Local Immune regulation in human pregnancy : with focus on decidual macrophages

    Author : Charlotte Gustafsson Lidström; Christina Ekerfelt; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; placenta; leukocyte; ELISPOT; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : During pregnancy, the woman carries a fetus partly foreign to her immune system, because of the expression of paternal antigens. Despite this, the fetus is normally tolerated and not rejected, as is often the case with organs in allogeneic transplantations. READ MORE
