1. Mass Spectrometry with Electrospray Ionization from an Adjustable Gap
Abstract : In this thesis the fabrication and analytical evaluation of two new electrospray emitters utilized for mass spectrometry analysis is presented. The emitters are based on a new concept, where the spray orifice can be varied in size. The thesis is based on two papers. All present-day nanoelectrospray emitters have fixed dimensions. READ MORE

2. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Heck Reactions : Domino Reactions, Decarboxylations, Mechanistic Studies & Continuous Flow Applications
Abstract : This thesis describes research efforts dedicated to the development of palladium(II)-catalyzed oxidative Heck and Heck/Suzuki domino reactions, and the applications of a new microwave heating technology, purpose-built for continuous flow in organic synthesis.Paper I describes the development of a ligand-modulated approach for attaching aryl groups to a chelating vinyl ether. 3. Experimental studies of cluster ions containing water, ammonia, pyridine and bisulphate
Abstract : Molecular cluster ions are fascinating subjects of study. Bridging the size gap between molecules and bulk, they often display non-trivial size dependent behaviour and properties. READ MORE

4. Functional Proteome analysis of the molecular mechanism of (myo)fibroblast differentiation
Abstract : Tissue remodeling is observed in several physiological conditions such as embryogenesis, senescence, wound healing and pregnancy, as well as in several pathological conditions such as fibrosis and tumorgenesis. Fibroblasts play a key role in this tissue remodeling due to their capability of altering the turnover of the extracellular matrix. READ MORE

5. Aspects of Antisense and Antigene Chemistry of Oligonucleotides Tethered to Intercalators
Abstract : Synthetic and physicochemical studies on appropriately functionalized ODN-conjugates have been performed to evaluate their abilities to act as antisense agents against RNA or as intramolecular DNA cross-linking agents. Intercalating aromatic systems [phenazine (Pnz), dipyridophenazine (DPPZ)] and metallointercalators such as Ru2+(phen)2(DPPZ) and Ru2+(tpy)(DPPZ)L [where L = chemically or photochemically labile ligand, phen = phenanthroline, tpy = terpyridine], which are covalently tethered to the oligo-deoxynucleotides (ODNs), have been chosen for this purpose.
