  1. 1. Palsa Growth and Decay in Northern Sweden : Climatic and Environmental Controls

    Author : Frieda S. Zuidhoff; Jonas Åkerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; ground thermal properties; palsas; permafrost degradation; peat porosity; Sweden; vegetation.; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : This thesis outlines the development and decay of palsas in northern Sweden in relation to climatic and environmental factors. Palsas were investigated on morphology, vegetation, peat porosity, ground temperature and local climate in four bogs situated on a north-south gradient in northern Sweden. READ MORE

  2. 2. Terrestrial response to Dansgaard-Oeschger cycles and Heinrich events : the lacustrine record of Les Echets, south-eastern France

    Author : Daniel S. Veres; Barbara Wohlfarth; John J. Lowe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lake sediments; palaeoclimate; organic matter; Dansgaard-Oeschger cycles; Heinrich events; MIS 3; Western Europe; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 was an interval characterized by large and abrupt temperature changes on a millennial time scale, the so-called Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) cycles and Heinrich events. Evidence for this high-frequency climate variability has been identified in many marine and ice core records. READ MORE

  3. 3. Climate in the eastern Mediterranean during the Holocene and beyond – A Peloponnesian perspective

    Author : Martin Finné; Karin Holmgren; Hanna S. Sundqvist; Georgia Destouni; Neil Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotopes; U-Th dating; stalagmites; climate variability; flooding history; eastern Mediterranean; southern Greece; Holocene; Pleistocene; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes increased knowledge about climate variability during the late Quaternary in the eastern Mediterranean. Results from a paleoclimate review reveal that regional wetter conditions from 6000 to 5400 years BP were replaced by a less wet period from 5400 to 4600 years BP and to fully arid conditions around 4600 years BP. 4. 4. Towards a Holocene tephrochronology for the Azores

    Author : Hans Johansson; Stefan Wastegård; Otto Hermelin; Ewa M. Lind; Christine S. Lane; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Abstract : The Azores is situated in the North Atlantic Ocean and is one of the most active volcanicregions in the Northern Hemisphere. The volcanic history of the islands is fairly wellknown and several explosive trachytic eruptions have been reported but the geochemicalcompositions of the glass component of the tephra as well as the dispersal oftephras to distal areas are less well known. 5. 5. Solar variability over the Holocene period : disentangling geomagnetic and solar influences on a new continuous 10Be record from Little Dome C, Antarctica

    Author : Hoang Long Nguyen; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ice core; cosmogenic radionuclide; 10Be; 14C; solar activity; paleomagnetism; ; Holocene;

    Abstract : Reliable information on solar activity over the Holocene period is important to predict the Sun in the future and to understand the mechanism behind the Sun-climate linkage. Presently, there are discrepancies in the proxy data of solar activity due to reasons that are not yet understood. READ MORE
