  1. 1. Persistency, bioaccumulation and toxicity assessment of selected brominated flame retardants

    Author : Jenny Rattfelt Nyholm; Patrik L. Andersson; Peter Haglund; Mats Tysklind; Walter Vetter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistence; bioaccumulation; toxicity; biodegradation; biotransformation; PBT; read across; soil; earthworm; zebrafish; copepod; BFRs; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; tetrabromobisphenol A; hexabromocyclododecane; hexabromobenzene; 2; 4; 6-tribromophenol; tetrabromobisphenol A; 2-hydroxyethyl ether; 1; 2-dibromo-4- 1; 2-dibromoethyl cyclohexane; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are chemicals used in e.g. electronic equipment, textiles and plastics for the prevention of fire. Over recent decades, concern has been raised regarding some heavily used BFRs, since the levels in the environment have been increasing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis of fluoroalkyl sulfonamide (FASA) based copolymers : An indirect source of non-polymeric PFAS

    Author : Felicia Fredriksson; Leo W. Y. Yeung; Anna Kärrman; Ulrika Eriksson; Robert Letcher; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAS; FASA-based copolymers; fluorine mass balance; EOF; sludge; TF; earthworm; exposure;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are an extensive group of anthropogenic compounds and are of global concern due to their negative effects on the environment and humans. Most environmental research reports non-polymeric PFAS, leading to a scarce understanding of polymeric PFAS, despite their large share on the global market. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of soil compaction on burrowing and energy costs of different earthworm species

    Author : Elsa Arrazola Vasquez; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Soil compaction has a key role in shaping earthworm burrowing activity. Understanding the impacts of soil conditions (e.g. soil moisture, soil compaction) on earthworm burrowing is important to foresee the effects on soil functions driven by earthworm activity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Earthworm and arbuscular mycorrhizal communities in agricultural soils : management of key soil organisms for sustainable agriculture

    Author : Kaisa Torppa; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Intensive agriculture is detrimental to soil biodiversity and functioning. Promoting communities of key soil organisms, such as earthworms and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, may help improve agricultural sustainability by replacing inputs with ecosystem services. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of locally available feed resources for striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)

    Author : Chau Thi Da; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated and compared inputs and outputs, economic factors and current feed use in small-scale farming systems producing striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in the Mekong Delta. The nutrient content of locally available natural feed resources for striped catfish was determined and growth performance, feed utilisation and body indices were analysed in pond-cultured striped catfish fed diets where fish meal protein was replaced with protein from local feed resources.
