  2. 12. On the intra-seasonal to decadal climate variability over South-Asia

    Author : Faisal Saeed Syed; Heiner Körnich; Erik Kjellström; Jagadish Shukla; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; South Asia; monsoon; western disturbances; fog; climate variability; climate dynamics; teleconnections; ENSO; NAO; CGT; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : South Asia, a land of contrasting landscapes, seasons and climates, is highly vulnerable to climate variability over intra-seasonal to decadal time scales. In winter, precipitation over the western parts of south Asia and fog over the Indo-Gangetic (IG) plains are the two major climatic features. READ MORE

  3. 13. Provenance of the pre-Quaternary aeolian dust deposits of East Asia

    Author : Katja Bohm; Thomas Stevens; Anu Kaakinen; Alex Pullen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component in the climate system, but its effect on and response to climate changes are poorly understood, especially over long timescales. This thesis investigates the sources of late Paleogene and Neogene dust deposits that formed under warmer-than-present global climates in the northern Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) region in mid-latitude East Asia. 4. 14. Waiting for the rising power : China’s rise in East Asia and the evolution of great power politics

    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Political Science; statsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Many political scientists expect the advent of rising states to bring about shifts in the international distribution of power, on the one hand, and competitive policies to improve one state’s power relative to a targeted state or coalition, known as “balancing,” on the other. Focusing on China’s rise in East Asia in 1993–2016, this dissertation challenges both these assumptions and offers a reassessment of the links between rising states, power shifts, and balancing in international relations. 5. 15. Isotope-based constraints on sources and processing of black carbon, carbon monoxide, and brown carbon in South Asia

    Author : Sanjeev Dasari; Örjan Gustafsson; August Andersson; Jos Lelieveld; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; South Asia; Air Pollution; Short-Lived Pollutants; Atmospheric Abundance; Model-Observation Mismatch; Radiocarbon; Stable Isotopes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The highly populated South Asian region is facing rapid economic growth and urbanization. Here, both climate- and health-affecting atmospheric agents such as light-absorbing aerosols black carbon (BC) and brown carbon (BrC), trace gas carbon monoxide (CO), are often found in relatively high levels compared to in other regions.
