  1. 1. Aspects on preoperative evaluation prior to EVAR of AAA

    Author : Tomas Ohrlander; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; abdominal aortic aneurysm; endovascular aortic repair; EVAR; preoperative evaluation; spirometry; echocardiography; vascular physician; angiologist;

    Abstract : Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms, AAA, is mainly a silent disease that mainly affects elderly males with a history of tobacco use, but when rupture occur most affected dies. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has made it possible to treat more fragile and elderly patients with advanced co-morbidities. READ MORE

  2. 2. Echocardiographic assessment and B-type natriuretic peptide for risk evaluation in acute coronary syndromes

    Author : Anita Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; Dopplerechocardiography; BNP; mortality; NT-proBNP; mitral regurgitation; congestive heart failure; restrictive filling pattern;

    Abstract : Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) is one of the most common causes of emergency medical care and the single most common cause of death in Sweden in both men and women. Despite a significant improvement in survival in the acute phase, the frequency of rehospitalization and death in subsequent years is unacceptably high. READ MORE

  3. 3. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Author : Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Abstract : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 4. 4. Aortic valve calcification : in vivo and ex vivo evaluation

    Author : Mohamed Yousry; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aortic valve calcification (AVC) or thickening is found in around one fifth of the general population between 65-75 years of age and increasingly thereafter. The process of aortic valve thickening and calcification is not only an aging (wear and tear) process of the valve leaflets. It is now considered to be closely related to atherosclerosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantitative echocardiographic methods for patients with acute coronary syndrome

    Author : Carl Westholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Tissue Doppler;

    Abstract : Background: The aim of this thesis was to evaluate two diagnostic and two prognostic quantitative echocardiographic methods for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods:
Velocity tracking (VeT) presents the longitudinal tissue Doppler velocities of the left ventricle (LV) as a bull’s eye plot giving an easy three dimensional understanding of both the global and regional function of the LV in regard to longitudinal velocities, systolic as well as diastolic. READ MORE
