    Abstract : The central objectives of this study is to assess the performance of irrigation water management of the Rahad scheme in Sudan between 1977 and 1996. The study assesses how well the scheme has succeeded in achieving irrigation management objectives using the criteria of productivity, equity, cost recovery and environmental stability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmental management of water systems under uncertainty

    Author : Christian Baresel; Georgia Destouni; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Keith Beven Beven; KTH; []

    Abstract : Hydrological drainage/river basins constitute highly heterogeneous systems of coupled natural and anthropogenic water and pollutant flows across political, national and international boundaries. These flows need to be appropriately understood, quantified and communicated to stakeholders, in order to appropriately guide environmental water system management. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sustainable and Safe Use of Non-conventional Waters -Reclaimed Water and Desalinated Water

    Author : Shuang Liu; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water reuse; Desalination; Strategy; Water security; Guidelines; Policy; Microbial risk assessment;

    Abstract : Fresh water scarcity, pollution and an uneven distribution have caused an increasingly serious global water crisis. One of the most widely adopted response strategies is the exploitation and use of non-conventional water sources. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment of stormwater and snowmelt quality based on water management priorities and the consequent water quality parameters

    Author : Helen Galfi; Maria Viklander; Jiri Marsalek; Helene Österlund; Jon M. Hathaway; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : Stormwater and snowmelt pollution contributes to degradation of quality of the receiving waters. For assessing such impacts, it is effective to focus on specific causes of degradation, as done in this study of the quality of stormwater and snowmelt discharges into the receiving waters serving for supply of raw drinking water and water-based recreation. 5. 5. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location

    Author : Imran Ali Jamali; Bo Olofsson; Stephen Foster; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Subsurface dams; Groundwater; GIS; Regolith thickness; Groundwater; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam.
