  1. 16. Analysis of Perfluoroalkyl Acids in Swedish Biota : Temporal trends, tissue distribution and toxicity

    Author : Katrin Holmström; Urs Berger; Gregg Tomy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; PFOS; PFAS; pollutant; Baltic guillemot; peregrine falcon; Monoporeia affinis; time trend; toxicity; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Perfluorinated alkyl acids (PFAS) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. They are found in high concentrations in top predators worldwide, with perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) as the predominant compound. READ MORE

  2. 17. Paternal care, filial cannibalism and sexual conflict in the sand goby, Pomatoschistus minutus

    Author : Maria Lissåker; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Ulrika Candolin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; female choice; filial cannibalism; Gobiidae; parental care; Pomatoschistus minutus; sand goby; sexual conflict; sexual selection; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Natural and sexual selection and sexual conflict are forces shaping the evolution of reproductive behaviour, while constrained by factors like environment, physiology and life-history trade-offs. Parental care is costly both in terms of time and energy. READ MORE

  3. 18. Paternal care and brood reduction in a pipefish

    Author : Gry Sagebakken; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parental care; brood reduction; embryo survival; parental condition; filial cannibalism; post-mating sexual selection; HSI; sexual conflicts; Syngnathus typhle; male brooding;

    Abstract : From an evolutionary and adaptive perspective, the occurrence and extent of parental care in animals (investment in offspring beyond the genetic contribution) is expected to depend on an optimal (fitness-maximizing) balance of its costs and benefits. Males of the sex-role reversed broad-nosed pipefish, Syngnathus typhle, which care for eggs and embryos and may perform brood reduction, are particularly interesting in this respect. READ MORE

  4. 19. Maternal programming: costs, benefits and constraints of maternal hormone transfer

    Author : Michael Tobler; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; aves; immune function; behavior; Maternal effects; hormones;

    Abstract : Avian mothers convey significant quantities of androgens (i.e. ?male? steroids) to their eggs, which are known to positively influence embryonic development, post-natal growth and competitive behaviour of the offspring. However, there is large inter-female variation in the amount of androgens transferred to the eggs. READ MORE

  5. 20. Determination of folate for food composition data : development and improvement of analytical methods

    Author : Hanna Sara Strandler; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Folate is B vitamin that is required for maintaining normal blood status. Recommendations on daily intake are based on information on blood folate status in relation to folate intake and bioavailability. Folate intake from a diet is evaluated by folate content in the food consumed. READ MORE
