31. Small-scale pattern and mobility of plant species in Alvar grassland
Abstract : Studies of the small-scale pattern, mobility of plant species and the effects of cattle dung deposition and decomposition on the soil seed banks and the above-ground vegetation were carried out in an alvar limestone grassland in Gettlinge, on the Baltic island of Öland, Sweden.A new method for pattern detection using transect data Patch Size Frequency Analysis (PASFRAN), was developed. 32. Use of phytometers for evaluating ecological restoration
Abstract : The increase in ecological restoration can be attributed to valuation of healthyecosystems and concerns for future climate changes. Freshwaters belong among theglobally most altered ecosystems and are restored to counteract human impacts. READ MORE

33. Regional and local variation in plant species richness
Abstract : In this thesis, I examine the variation in plant species richness along gradients of productivity and disturbance in grasslands and forest habitats in southern Sweden, and I compare the documented patterns with theoretical predictions. Moreover, I evaluate the relative importance of habitat quality and habitat configuration for the occurrence of field layer species in deciduous forests. READ MORE

34. Nutrient use strategies of plants of various life-forms in a subarctic environment : Nutrient conservation as an adaption to infertile habitats
Abstract : Plant performance in relation to limiting nutrients was analysed using the concept of nutrient use efficiency (NUE). NUE can be decomposed into (1) the nutrient productivity (aNP) and (2) the mean residence time (MRT). READ MORE

35. Plant ecological studies related to restoration of a degraded ecosystem in central Tanzania
Abstract : Kondoa Irangi area is among the most degraded ecosystems in Central Tanzania as a result of heavygrazing, fire, collection of fuelwood and improper cultivation practices. The restoration process of thisdegraded ecosystem through natural regeneration is slowed by the semi-arid climate of the area combinedwith poor soil nutrient status. READ MORE
