  1. 1. Load-Carrying Capacity of Steel Girders and Panels with Thin-Walled Trapezoidally Corrugated Webs

    Author : Ruoshan Luo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steel; finite element; thin-walled structures; girder; post-buckling; panel; trapezoidal corrugation; load-carrying capacity; optimal design; plasticity; spline finite strip; buckling; large deflection;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the load-carrying capacity of steel girders and panels with thin-walled trapezoidally corrugated webs. Computer-based numerical methods are used as a tool and emphasis is placed on various parametric studies, covering geometric parameters, initial imperfections, material strain-hardening models, loading types and loading positions, and so forth. 2. 2. Weakening of Crack-tip Singularity due to Buckling of Thin Bodies under Tension

    Author : Li Chong; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thin foils; Fracture; Buckling;

    Abstract : When thin sheets containing a crack is subjected to tensile loading in the direction perpendicular to the crack surface out of plane displacement will occur in areas surrounding the crack. By this the stress state in the vicinity of the crack tip is changed and leads to a weaker crack tip singularity than the r-1/2 by linear elastic fracture mechanics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural Design of Laser-Welded Sandwich Panels for Marine Applications

    Author : Hans Kolsters; KTH; []
    Keywords : Sandwich; Laser welding; Web; Core; Stiffness; Elastic Buckling; Ultimate strength; Finite element analysis; Mechanical testing; Optimisation.;

    Abstract : In shipbuilding the replacement of stiffened platestructures by laser-welded sandwich panels offers considerableadvantages for production as well as vessel operation. In viewof reduced weight and space requirements an area of particularinterest is the incorporation of an adhesively bonded core bywhich the stiffness and strength can be substantiallyincreased, and thermal-acoustic insulation can be integrated. 5. 5. Mechanical Characterization and Electrochemical Sensor Applications of Zinc Oxide Nanostructures

    Author : Alimujiang Fulati; Magnus Willander; Qingxiang Qingxiang; Omer Nour; Laszlo Kish; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Nanotechnology; Zinc Oxide; nanorods; nanotubes; nanoporous; buckling; electrochemical sensor; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Nanotechnology is emerging to be one of the most important scientific disciplines that physics, chemistry and biology truly overlap with each other. Over the last two decades science and technology have witnessed tremendous improvement in the hope of unveiling the true secrets of the nature in molecular or atomic level. READ MORE
