1. Material migration in tokamaks : Erosion-deposition patterns and transport processes
Abstract : Controlled thermonuclear fusion may become an attractive future electrical power source. The most promising of all fusion machine concepts is called a tokamak. The fuel, a plasma made of deuterium and tritium, must be confined to enable the fusion process. It is also necessary to protect the wall of tokamaks from erosion by the hot plasma. READ MORE

2. Applications of Ion Beam Methods in Silicide/Si and Silicide/GaAs Nanometre Structures
Abstract : Ion beam methods are used to analyse material (Ion Beam Analysis, IBA) and to modify the target (Ion Beam Modification of Materials, IBMM). In this thesis, ion beams have been used in various IBA techniques to investigate the surface nanometre structures, and also in an ion beam synthesis (IBS) technique to form thin films and to modify material properties. 3. Statistical Modelling and Inference for XENON1T
Abstract : A great number of astrophysical observations suggests that of the matter in our universe, only a sixth is made up of known matter. The rest, named dark matter, has not been successfully identified. READ MORE

4. Material characterization for magnetically confined fusion : Surface analysis and method development
Abstract : The dream of abundant clean energy has brought scientists and laypeople alike to ponder the possibilities of nuclear fusion since it was established as the energy source of the stars in 1939. Starting from the mid-twentieth century, significant effort has been put into overcoming the technological challenges related to the construction of a power plant, but initial optimism has faded somewhat due to a notable absence of practical outcomes. 5. Deposition and Phase Transformations of Ternary Al-Cr-O Thin Films
Abstract : This thesis concerns the ternary Al-Cr-O system. (Al1-xCrx)2O3 solid solution thin films with 0.62 gas mixture. As-deposited and annealed (Al1-xCrx)2O3 thin films were analyzed by x-ray diffraction, elastic recoil detection analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and nanoindentation.
