  1. 1. Treatment of organic pollutants in high salinity wastewater : new catalysis systems

    Author : Han Yu; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High salinity wastewater; Electrochemical catalysis; Photo-electro catalysis; Degradation;

    Abstract : High salinity wastewater (HSW, NaCl mass fraction ≥ 1%) from industries and aquacultures contains massive organic matters with a wide variety. These organic matters have been considered as significant threaten to both human and environment. The removal and degradation of them before discharge emerge as necessity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and Applications of Surface-Confined Transition Metal Complexes : Heterogeneous Catalysis and Anisotropic Particle Surfaces

    Author : Kristofer Eriksson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Graham Hutchings; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heterogeneous catalysis; anisotropic particles; protein gradients; nanoparticles; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis has been directed towards developing novel surface-confined transition metal complexes for applications in heterogeneous catalysis and for the preparation of anisotropic particle surfaces. The first part describes the heterogenization of a homogeneous transition metal-based catalyst tetraphenyl cobalt porphyrin (CoTPP) on silicon wafers and on silica particles. READ MORE

    Author : Hao Yang; Licheng Sun; Marc Koper; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial photosynthesis; solar fuels; water oxidation; nucleophilic attack; conjugated microporous polymer; host-guest chemistry; photoanode; perovskites; artificiell fotosyntes; solbränslen; vattenoxidation; nukleofil attack; konjugerad mikroporös polymer; värd-gästkemi; fotoanoder; perovskiter; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The key challenge within artificial photosynthesis is achieving efficient electro- or photo-driven water oxidation catalysis, a necessary process to supply the protons for the reduction reactions, thereby enabling solar fuel production. To facilitate efficient water (photo)electrolysis for solar fuel production, this thesis focuses on two aspects: 1) elucidating the O-O bond formation mechanism and developing efficient, stable, and economical water oxidation catalysts (WOCs); 2) exploring stable, low-cost, light-absorbing photoanode materials that have suitable band structures and excellent charge diffusion properties. 4. 4. Water splitting by heterogeneous catalysis

    Author : Henrik Svengren; Mats Johnsson; Tomas Edvinsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Faradaic efficiency; electrocatalysis; electrolysis; water oxidation; hydrogen reduction; H2; O2; mass spectrometry; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : A sustainable solution for meeting the energy demands at our planet is by utilizing wind-, solar-, wave-, thermal-, biomass- and hydroelectric power. These renewable and CO2 emission-free energy sources are highly variable in terms of spatial and temporal availability over the Earth, introducing the need for an appropriate method of storing and carrying energy. 5. 5. Structural, Electronic and Reactive Properties of Pentapyridyl - Base Metal Complexes : Relevance for Water Oxidation Catalysis

    Author : Manuel Boniolo; Johannes Messinger; Antoni Llobet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water oxidation; Base metal complexes; Redox potential; Spin crossover; Magnetic anisotropy; Chemistry with specialization in Molecular Biomimetics; Kemi med inriktning mot molekylär biomimetik;

    Abstract : The rationalization of chemical-physical proprieties of transition metal complexes is fundamental in order to understand and tune their reactivity. In this thesis, a systematic investigation of the geometrical and electronic properties of [M(Py5OH)Cl]+ complexes (M= Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) has been performed, and their ability to act as molecular water oxidation catalysts has been probed.
