    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; corrosion protection; nanocomposite; coating; tool alloy; layer‐by‐layer; polarization; passivity; nanomechanical; topography; Mefp‐ 1; ceria nanoparticle; PAni; UV‐cure; AFM; Peak Force QNM; EIS; SEM; CRM; QCM‐D; ATR‐FTIR;

    Abstract : This thesis describes technical and scientific aspects of new types of composite films/coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel, composite films with nanometer thickness consisting of mussel adhesive protein (Mefp‐1) and ceria nanoparticles, and polymeric composite coatings with micrometre thickness consisting of conducting polymer and ceria nanoparticles in a UV‐curing polyester acrylate (PEA) resin.The influence of microstructure on corrosion behaviour was studied for a Fe‐Cr‐V‐N alloy containing micro‐sized nitrides with different chemical composition spread in martensitic alloy matrix. 2. 2. FEM Modelling of Micro-galvanic Corrosion in Al Alloys Induced by Intermetallic Particles : Exploration of Chemical and Geometrical Effects

    Author : Litao Yin; Jinshan Pan; Christopher Leygraf; Ying Jin; Herman Terryn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite Element Method FEM ; Modelling; Micro-galvanic corrosion; Al alloy; corrosion product deposition; chemical factors; steric hindrance effect; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Localized corrosion, such as pitting, crevice corrosion or galvanic corrosion, is a long-standing phenomenon that can greatly limit the life of metallic materials. For decades experimental methods have been used to try to understand the underlying physical, chemical and electrochemical processes that control localized corrosion in order to find effective protection methods against its propagation. 3. 3. Molecular studies of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper : Exploration of ultra-sensitive techniques for the inhibiting effect of self assembled monolayers, and the effect of gamma radiation

    Author : Saman Hosseinpour; Christofer Leygraf; Franz Geiger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Corrosion; copper; self assembled monolayer; sum frequency spectroscopy; qcm; gamma radiation;

    Abstract : Atmospheric corrosion indoors is of great practical importance for the degradation of metals, for example in electronics, military equipment, and cultural heritage items. It involves a wide range of chemical, electrochemical, and physical processes occurring in gas, liquid, and solid phases, and at the interfaces between them. READ MORE

  4. 4. Atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys – characterization and mechanisms

    Author : Mehrdad Shahabi Navid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EDX; CO2; XPS; Mg and MgAl alloys; NaCl; Atmospheric corrosion; Characterization; 3D imaging; SEM; BIB; Thin film; FTIR; XRD; Pitting; Interference microscopy; FIB;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys was investigated. Corrosion tests were performed in the laboratory under controlled environment. CP Mg, AM50 and AZ91 samples were exposed at 95% RH and 22°C in the presence and in the absence of 400 ppm CO2 for 24 h to 672 h. The passive film was characterized by means of XPS, FTIR, AES and XRD. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today’s electronic society relies on the functionality of electrical contacts. To achieve good contact properties, surface coatings are normally applied. Such coatings should ideally fulfill a combination of different properties, like high electrical conductivity, high corrosion resistance, high wear resistance and low cost. READ MORE
