  1. 11. Efficient Modeling of Modular Multilevel Converters for HVDC Transmission Systems

    Author : Noman Ahmed; Hans-Peter Nee; Tim Green; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-Voltage dc; Modular Multilevel Converter; Voltage-Source Converter; HVDC Grids; Multiterminal DC Systems; Hybrid HVDC Breaker; Modeling; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The drive towards getting more and more electrical energy from renewable sources, requires more efficient electric transmission systems. A stronger grid, with more controllability and higher capacity, that can handle power fluctuations due to a mismatch between generation and load is also needed. READ MORE

  2. 12. Transient Electromagnetic Waves in Nonlinear Media

    Author : Daniel Sjöberg; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signal processing; nonlinear materials; Electromagnetic waves; instantaneous response; waveguides; shock waves; entropy condition; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Electronics and Electrical technology; Signalbehandling; Electromagnetism; optics; acoustics; Elektromagnetism; optik; akustik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the propagation of transient electromagnetic waves in nonlinear media. It consists of a General Introduction and five scientific papers. The General Introduction gives a broad overview of nonlinear electromagnetic phenomena. READ MORE

  3. 13. Mathematical modeling of electromagnetic disturbances in railway system

    Author : Farid Monsefi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drift och underhållsteknik; Operation and Maintenance; Industrial Electronics; Industriell elektronik;

    Abstract : By introduction of modern electronics into railway system, new challenges in understanding the electric and electromagnetic behavior of these systems arise. In this thesis, electromagnetic modeling of electric networks above dielectric and perfect electrically conducting surfaces are studied. READ MORE

  4. 14. Modeling of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence

    Author : Ola Widlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : turbulence model; magnetohydrodynamic; mhd; magnetohydrodynamic turbulence; computational fluid dynamics; continuous casting;

    Abstract : Conventional one-point turbulence closures have beenextended with an additional transported scalar for modeling ofmagnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. The new scalar, α ,captures the length scale anisotropy and tendency towardstwo-dimensionality, which is characteristic feature of MHDturbulence, and allows accurate modeling of the Jouledissipation of turbulence. 5. 15. Track circuits’ robustness : Modeling, measurement and simulation

    Author : Emilio Rodriguez; Ajit Kumar Verma; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Track circuit; Relay; False positive signals; Signalling in railway; Modelling; Simulation; Testing; Robustness; Interoperability; Reliability; Railway Infrastructure; Drift och underhållsteknik; Operation and Maintenance Engineering;

    Abstract : In countries with rough weather conditions, frequent delays cause railway companies to waste time and money. Many of these delays are related to the train detection systems, as the old DC track circuits are still used in some countries, including Sweden, our case study. READ MORE
