  1. 1. Sequelae after Facial Palsy : Clinical, Anatomical and Electrophysiological Studies

    Author : David Jensson; Andres Rodriguez-Lorenzo; Lars Jonsson; Göran Laurell; Sinikka Suominen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial palsy; Marginal mandibular paralysis; Smile reconstruction; Synkinesis; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Background: Sequelae after peripheral facial palsy, which among others include synkinesis, non-functional smile and/or lower lip asymmetry, may be devastating for the patient. Bell’s palsy is the most common form of peripheral facial palsy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Memory and communication in typically developing infants and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder : Behavioral and electrophysiological indices

    Author : Emelie Nordqvist; Mikael Heimann; Mary Rudner; Magnus Lindgren; Leslie Carver; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Memory development; communication; deferred imitation; ERP; autism spectrum disorder; Minne; kommunikation; fördröjd imitation; ERP; autismspektrumstörning;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how variations in early memory capacity seems, both in children with typical development in children with autism. More specifically, variations in early memory is examined here over time, and its relationship to early (verbal and non-verbal) communication skills. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of individual pancreatic -cells : Electrophysiological analysis of rhythmic behaviour and development of new techniques

    Author : Staffan Dryselius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic beta-cells; insulin release; signal transduction; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; patch clamp; ATP-regulated potassium channels; voltage-dependent calcium channels; metabolism; calcium ion; strontium ion; manganese ion; wavelets; de-noising; pattern recognition; superfusion; solution changes; microscopic labelling; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : The insulin concentration in blood varies periodically, which is believed to prevent down-regulation of the hormone receptors. Loss of the regular insulin oscillations is considered to be an early sign of developing diabetes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microfluidics based techniques for electrophysiological studies of cells

    Author : Aikeremu Ahemaiti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis work investigates the application of microfluidics to perform electrophysiological studies on cells, including investigations of the effect of cholesterol on the dynamic ion permeability of TRPV1 ion channels, and the application of a microfluidic device, the multifunctional pipette, in electrophysiological studies on brain slices. In the first part of this thesis, Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells overexpressing the TRPV1 ion channel were used in a dynamic ion permeability study, where the activation properties of the TRPV1 ion channel were investigated using the patch clamp technique after depletion of membrane cholesterol. 5. 5. Influence of metabolic disturbance on nervous function : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Lars Hyllienmark; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The present work consists of clinical and experimental studies and describes some effects of metabolic disturbance on nervous function. It is an electrophysiological examination of both single cells and patients exposed to metabolic insult or disease. READ MORE
