  1. 11. The birth and growth of the protein folding nucleus : Studies of protein folding focused on critical contacts, topology and ionic interactions

    Author : Linda Hedberg; Mikael Oliveberg; Christopher Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; protein stability; two-state folding; chevron plot; transition-state movements; Hammond behaviour; topology; electrostatic interactions; pH dependence; mass-action; protein engineering; pKa; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Proteins are among the most complex molecules in the cell and they play a major role in life itself. The complexity is not restricted to just structure and function, but also embraces the protein folding reaction. READ MORE

  2. 12. Electric interactions: A study of cellulose

    Author : Björn Stenqvist; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : Electric interactions; Quantum mechanics; Statistical mechanics; Simulations; Cellulose; Electric interactions; Quantum mechanics; Statistical mechanics; Simulations; Cellulose;

    Abstract : This work is primary about development and application of electrostatic theory within the atomistic domain. The resulting procedures were implemented to eventually describe systems involving the cellulose molecule. A concluding remark about electrostatic interactions is the importance of moment cancellation. READ MORE

  3. 13. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications

    Author : Johan Rydberg; Lars Baltzer; Joel Schneider; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein interactions; design; catalysis; biosensors; hybride materials; nanoparticles; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 4. 14. Polyelectrolyte - Surfactant Interactions in Dilute Suspensions. A Study Based on Monte Carlo simulations and Mean-Field Calcultations

    Author : Torsten Wallin; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggregation number; linear charge density; chain flexibility; mean-field; calculation; simulation; Monte Carlo; cmc; cac; interaction; electrostatic; charged; micelle; polyelectrolyte; surfactant; hydrophilic; hydrophobic; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The complexation of macroions or charged micelles and oppositely charged polyelectrolytes was studied by the use of Monte-Carlo simulations and mean field calculations. The Monte-Carlo simulations were performed on a simple model system with the emphasis on the electrostatic interaction, (i) polyelectrolyte rigidity, (ii) polyelectrolyte linear charge density, (iii) surfactant tail length, and (iv) the polyelectrolyte concentration. 5. 15. Membrane interactions of glycosyltransferases

    Author : Jobst Liebau; Lena Mäler; Christofer Lendel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid; bicelle; glycosyltransferase; NMR; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Many important biological processes occur near or in membranes. The role of membranes is not merely confined to compartmentalization, they also form the matrix for membrane associated proteins and are of functional importance. Membrane associated proteins on the other hand require specific membrane properties for proper function. READ MORE
