1. Magnetically governed self-assembly of soft matter : A look into interfacial layering, crystallization and percolation
Abstract : Self-organisation is the key route for assembling colloidal particles into well-defined structures. Decisive for this are the interactions between the constituents, which are amongst others steric, electrostatic or magnetic. READ MORE

3. Mixed Block Copolymer Solutions: Self-Assembly and Interactions
Abstract : This thesis incorporates studies on the aqueous systems of two types of thermoresponsive amphiphilic block copolymers; a series of nonionic triblock copolymers comprising blocks of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) denoted as PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers, and a series of ionic diblock copolymers consisting of one charged block and one block of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM). Various techniques, such as dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS), small angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS and SANS), high sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry (HSDSC), turbidimetry, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and two-dimensional proton NMR nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (2D 1H NMR NOESY), were applied to study these block copolymer systems. 4. Self-organization of nanoparticles - implications for interface biology
Abstract : Cells bind to their surroundings via proteins displayed on the cell surface. These interactions support the cells and are important for many cellular processes, e.g. cell migration during morphogenesis, wound healing and cancer metastasis. READ MORE

5. Building Blocks for the Assembly of Nanostructures
Abstract : The natural world and many man made technologies are driven by self-assembly, involving the autonomous organization of individual components as a result of specific local interactions into functional structures. Self-assembly is a platform from which to construct materials with a high complexity, in high precision, with an inbuilt error- correction system due to its dynamic nature. READ MORE
