    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; termodynamik; statistisk fysik; gravitation; relativitet; kvantmekanik; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; Pseudo-scalar meson; Isospin Breaking; Chiral Perturbation Theory; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; relativity; statistical physics; Weak Interaction; Strong Interaction; kvantfältteori; High energy interactions; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; klassisk mekanik; quantum field theory; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : The five different K -> 3 Pi and the three K -> 2 Pi decays are calculated in Chiral Perturbation Theory. The calculation is done using different approximations, to study whether this changes the result significantly. First the isospin approximation is used. Discrepancies are then found between theory and experiment. READ MORE

  2. 7. Searches for the Charged Higgs at Hadron Colliders Based on the Tau Lepton Signature

    Author : Yann Coadou; Tord Ekelöf; William Trischuk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics has been very successful in predicting a wide range of phenomena and has so far been confirmed by all existing data to a very high precision.The work described in this thesis tests the limits of validity of the Standard Model (SM) in two areas believed to be sensitive to deviations from the theory: the observation of unpredicted particles and CP violation. 3. 8. Charged Higgs Bosons at the ATLAS Experiment and Beyond

    Author : Elias Coniavitis; Richard Brenner; Tord Ekelöf; Johan Rathsman; Marco Battaglia; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; Standard Model; beyond the Standard Model; supersymmetry; MSSM; Higgs physics; charged Higgs boson; LHC; ATLAS; ATLAS Semi-Conductor Tracker; SCT; tau lepton; Lorentz angle; CLIC; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; High Energy Physics; Högenergifysik;

    Abstract : In the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, direct searches for the elusive Higgs boson will be conducted, as well as for physics beyond the Standard Model. The charged Higgs boson (H±) is interesting both as a part of the Higgs sector, and as a clear sign of new physics. READ MORE

  4. 9. A Search for Neutrinos from Cosmic Point Sources using AMANDA-B10 with Emphasis on Limit Calculation Techniques

    Author : Jan Conrad; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Gregory W. Sullivan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : A search for cosmic point sources of neutrinos has been performed using data taken in 1999 with the AMANDA-B10 neutrino telescope. This work describes methods for signal and background separation and the statistical analysis of the final data sample. READ MORE

  5. 10. Jet Production and Parton Dynamics in Deep Inelastic Scattering

    Author : Mattias Davidsson; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; DIS; ep scattering; HERA; H1; jets; small-x; Parton Dynamics; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Davidsson;

    Abstract : Hard QCD processes have been studied by measuring the di-jet event rate for deep inelastic scattering in the kinematic range 5 < Q2 < 100 GeV2 and 10-4 < x < 10-2. The jets we re reconstructed using the cone algorithm in the hadronic center-of-mass frame in which the transverse momentum of the jets were required to be greater than 5 GeV. READ MORE
