  1. 1. Biomarkers for Peripartum Depression : Focusing on aspects of the immune system and the metabolome

    Author : Emma Bränn; Alkistis Skalkidou; Emma Fransson; Fotios Papadopoulos; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Daniel Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Peripartum depression; Immune system; Metabolome; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Peripartum depression is a common, multifactorial, and potentially devastating disease among new mothers. A biological marker for peripartum depression would facilitate early detection, better understanding of the pathophysiology, and identification of targets for treatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effects of Ubiquinone-10 on the Stability and Mechanical Properties of Lipid Membranes

    Author : Emma K. Eriksson; Katarina Edwards; Victor Agmo Hernández; Emma Sparr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ubiquinone-10; lipid bilayers; membrane stabilizer; liposome permeability; osmotic shock; cuvettes; solanesol; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Ubiquinones are a group of fat-soluble molecules present in many biological membranes. The most abundant version in humans, ubiquinone-10 (Q10), plays an important role in the mitochondrial respiration chain and also functions as a powerful antioxidant. Accumulating evidence suggests that Q10 also could have other functions in the membrane. READ MORE

  3. 3. Deviations from the London model in superconductors

    Author : Emma Campillo; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; Neutron scattering; SANS; vortex lattice; condensed matter physics; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Campillo;

    Abstract : Using Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) we have studied the flux line lattices of the first heavy-fermion superconductor to be discovered, CeCu2Si2, the well-known high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7, along with Ca-doped variants of this compound, and several topological superconductor candidates that have attracted a lot of attention in the last few years, such as PbTaSe2, Au2Pb and β-Bi2Pd.Unconventional superconductors, with pairing mechanisms and properties that are not accounted for within BCS theory, are a subject of continuing interest. 4. 4. Large-Scale Land Acquisitions as a Driver of Socio-Environmental Change : From the Pixel to the Globe

    Author : Emma Johansson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Land system sience; socio-environmental change; telecoupling; scale; co-production of knowledge; participatory art project; network science; blue and green water; Africa; Land grabbing; Remote sensing;

    Abstract : A major challenge of our time is to sustainably produce food and other goods for a growing global population, without putting additional pressures on land and water resources and local people’s quality of life. Large-scale agriculture has brought many benefits to humanity in terms of food production but has also caused multiple sustainability challenges, including land and water degradation, deforestation, and biodiversity loss in areas of production.
