2. Etiology, prevalence, and development of a novel treatment for body dysmorphic disorder
Abstract : Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is characterized by an intense preoccupation with perceived defects in physical appearance that are not noticeable, or only appear slight to others. While effective treatment for this disorder does exist (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy; CBT) most sufferers do not get access to it. READ MORE

3. Information Processing in the Nervous System. On a Holistic Functional Organization Principle
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the nature of information processing in the nervous system. This issue has been investigated with animal experiments, using male Sprague–Dawley rats, and simulated touch generated by an artificial fingertip with neuromorphic tactile sensors. READ MORE

4. Cosmic tests of massive gravity
Abstract : Massive gravity is an extension of general relativity where the graviton, which mediates gravitational interactions, has a non-vanishing mass. The first steps towards formulating a theory of massive gravity were made by Fierz and Pauli in 1939, but it took another 70 years until a consistent theory of massive gravity was written down. 5. Folded polypeptide scaffolds for biosensor and biochip applications : design, synthesis, functionalisation and characterisation
Abstract : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and evaluation of functional molecular units intended for use in biosensor and microarray applications. A flexible, synthetic helix-loop-helix polypeptide that dimerises to form four-helix bundles was used as a scaffold and was modified with affinity ligands and fluorescent probes to specifically bind a target biomolecule and report on this event in an integrated process.
