    Abstract : Endocrine tumors arise from endocrine glands. Most endocrine tumors are benign but malignant variants exist. Several endocrine neoplasms display loss of parts of chromosome 11 or 18, produce hormones and responds poorly to conventional chemotherapeutics. The multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes are mainly confined to endocrine tumors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adjuvant treatments to prevent local reurrence after breast-conserving surgery for early breast cancer : radiation, endocrine- or brachytherapy

    Author : Åsa Wickberg; Göran Liljegren; Johan Ahlgren; Roger Olofsson Bagge; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast-conserving surgery; radiotherapy; endocrine therapy; intraoperative brachytherapy;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery due to breast cancer is an established treatment, known to reduce the incidence of recurrence and even death from the disease. However some women are over-treated with sometimes serious adverse effects. De-escalating the treatment and find alternative adjuvant methods are becoming an important issue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic studies of endocrine abdominal tumors

    Author : Ola Hessman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; MEN1; LOH; pancreatic endocrine tumors; midgut carcinoid; Smad4 DPC4; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) occur sporadically or in the familial multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome, whereas midgut carcinoids are nonfamilial, malignant endocrine tumors of the intestine. For these tumor entities morphological criteria are of limited use for prognostic prediction and selection of treatment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Intraoperative scintigraphic detection of abdominal endocrine tumors : Development and evaluation of hand held gamma sensitive probes for¹¹¹In

    Author : Ulf Öhrvall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Adrenocortical carcinoma; endocrine pancreatic tumors; mid-gut carcinoids; intraoperative gammadetection; octreotide; scintigraphy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Surgery of endocrine tumors benefit from accurate pre and- intraoperative localization methods,and scintigraphy has become an important contribution in this respect. In the present thesis therequisites for scintigraphic localization of abdominal endocrine tumors and new detectors forintraoperative gammadetection are evaluated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Calciumhomeostasis and Vitamin D in Obesity and Preeclampsia

    Abstract : Normal physiological functioning is highly dependent of calcium and the concentration range is very narrow. Normal calcium levels are so crucial to survival that the body will de-mineralize bone if the levels are insufficient. A prerequisite for normal calcium uptake is a normal Vitamin D level. READ MORE
