  1. 1. Endocytosis of therapeutic macromolecules in tumor cells - Mechanistic aspects of the proteoglycan receptor function

    Author : Anders Wittrup; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LL-37; heparan sulfate; glypican; endocytosis; drug delivery; DNA uptake; Cancer; cell penetrating peptides; non-viral gene delivery; organelle purification; proteoglycan; syndecan.;

    Abstract : Novel therapeutics to combat cancer are urgently needed. Most current pharmacological therapies have severe side effects and are seldom curative. Macromolecular drugs, and in particular nucleic acid based drugs, offer a potential remedy for this situation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adaptive mechanisms in the hypoxic tumor microenvironment. Functional role of proteoglycans and identification of potential treatment targets

    Author : Julien Menard; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : Hypoxia; Acidosis; Proteoglycans; Endocytosis; Glioblastoma; Lipid; Caveolin-1; Antibody-drug conjugate;

    Abstract : Cancer cells reside in a complex microenvironment comprising stromal cells and immune cells embedded in an extracellular matrix (ECM). Early on in tumor progression, cells reach a critical volume beyond which blood supply is impaired, leading to a decrease in oxygen levels (hypoxia) and nutrient supply. READ MORE

  3. 3. In vitro studies on the mechanisms of inhibited thyroidal iodide uptake and destructive thyroiditis as adverse effects of amiodarone and interferon-gamma

    Author : Sofia Tedelind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : thyroid; amiodarone; interferon-gamma; iodide transport; tight junction; mitochondria; endocytosis;

    Abstract : The clinical use of the potent anti-arrhythmic drug amiodarone is limited due to adverse effects e.g. in the thyroid comprising both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction can occur in subjects with normal thyroid glands but also in those with an underlying thyroid abnormality resulting in an aggravation of the condition. 4. 4. Cell-penetrating peptides, novel synthetic nucleic acids, and regulation of gene function : Reconnaissance for designing functional conjugates

    Author : Peter Guterstam; Ülo Langel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell-penetrating peptide; nucleic acids; alternative splicing; mismatch discrimination; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Abstract : Our genome operates by sending instructions, conveyed by mRNA, for the manufacture of proteins from chromosomal DNA in the nucleus of the cell to the protein synthesizing machinery in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is a natural process in which a single gene can encode multiple related proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. PepFect14, a Versatile Cell-Penetrating Peptide

    Author : Maxime Gestin; Ülo Langel; Anna-Lena Ström; Angelita Rebollo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell-Penetrating Peptides; PepFect14; transfection; signaling mechanisms; intracellular targeting; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Cell-penetrating peptides have been discovered almost three decades ago and there are, nowadays, thousands of available sequences. They offer multiple applications in the field of drug delivery as they are able to carry therapeutic macromolecules across the plasma membrane. READ MORE
