  1. 11. Characterization of ERp29 : a novel secretion factor of endoplasmic reticulum

    Author : Ernest Sargsyan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : ERp29 is a ubiquitously expressed endoplasmic reticulum protein strongly conserved in mammalian species. The N-terminal domain of ERp29 is similar to the thioredoxin domain of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) lacking however the double-cysteine active site motif. The C-terminal domain is a novel five-helical fold. READ MORE

  2. 12. Plant Calreticulins - isoforms, localization and function

    Author : Karin Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabidopsis thaliana; calcium; isoform; endoplasmic reticulum; chaperone; tunicamycin;

    Abstract : Calreticulin (CRT) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-located protein involved in quality control of newly synthesized proteins as well as in calcium homeostasis of the cell. Most of what is known about CRT arises from studies of mammalian systems. READ MORE

  3. 13. Haptoglobin: Biosynthesis and Evolution

    Author : Krzysztof B. Wicher; Erik Fries; John W. M. Creemers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; haptoglobin; cleavage; C1r-LP; evolution; vertebrate; endoplasmic; Golgi; complement; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Haptoglobin (Hp) is a serum protein known for its ability to form a tight complex with hemoglobin (Hb) and thereby inhibiting the oxidative activity of Hb. Mammalian Hp is synthesized as a precursor (proHp) that undergoes proteolytic cleavage by a previously unidentified enzyme in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). READ MORE

  4. 14. The interplay between mitochondria-endoplasmic reticulum contacts and Alzheimer’s disease

    Author : Nuno João Santos Leal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Even though Alzheimer’s disease (AD) was first described more than 100 years ago, we still have no treatment preventing the ongoing neurodegenerative process. Two major pathological hallmarks have been connected to AD: extracellular amyloid plaques (constituted by amyloid β-peptide – Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles. READ MORE

  5. 15. Folding and retention of rotavirus glycoproteins in the endoplasmic reticulum

    Author : Ali Mirazimi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ER; rotavirus; VP7; NSP4; oligosaccharide processing; N-linked glycosylation; protein disulfide isomerase; calnexin; ATP; ER retention;

    Abstract : The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a membrane bound organelle composed of a network of cisternae stretching throughout the cytoplasm. Functionally, the ER performs many essential processes, such as glycosylation, and biosynthesis of lipids; it provides a redox potential condition for forming S-S linkages, and a quality control system, and functions as an intracellular calcium store.
