6. Steering sustainability transitions? Modular participatory backcasting for strategic planning in the heating and cooling sector
Abstract : Fostering sustainability transitions in the heating and cooling sector is a necessary and urgent issue. Steering mechanisms can enable coordination of actions by different actors towards common sustainability goals. READ MORE

7. Exploring spatial and temporal resolution in energy systems modelling : a model-based analysis focused on the developing electricity systems
Abstract : The energy system is undergoing a transition in many parts of the world with this transition being driven by several factors such as climate change, and economic and social development. Agenda 2030, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has set the direction on where development should be focussed. READ MORE

8. A Rational Exergy Management Model to Curb CO2 Emissions in the Exergy-Aware Built Environments of the Future
Abstract : This thesis puts forth the means of a strategic approach to address a persistent problem in the energy system and in this way, to transition the built environment to a future state that is more exergy-aware to curb CO2 emissions. Such a vision is made possible by the six-fold contributions of the research work: I) An analytical model is developed, which for the first time, formulates the CO2 emissions that are compounded in the energy system as a function of the systematic failures to match the supply and demand of exergy. 9. Flexibility from local resources: Congestion management in distribution grids and carbon emission reductions
Abstract : Flexibility from local energy systems has been discussed as a facilitator for the transition towards a more carbon-neutral energy system. Two use cases of this flexibility are congestion management in electricity distribution networks, and an individual-driven reduction of carbon footprints. READ MORE

10. Robust energy management for IoT machine elements
Abstract : Advancements in semiconductor technology have reached the point at which ambient energy in the surrounding environment can power sensors and microprocessors. This capability enables new strategies for energy management, which are necessary to continue the sensorization of our environment. READ MORE
