11. Energy Savings Using a Direct Current Distribution Network in a PV and Battery Equipped Residential Building
Abstract : Energy from solar photovoltaic (PV) are generated as direct current (DC) and almost all of today’s electrical loads in residential buildings, household appliances and HVAC system (Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning) are operated on DC. For a conventional alternating current (AC) distribution system this requires the need for multiple conversion steps before the final user-stage. READ MORE

12. Solar PV in prosumer energy systems : A techno-economic analysis on sizing, integration, and risk
Abstract : In the transition towards a sustainable energy system, building mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) have unique benefits; they require no additional land and the energy is generated directly at load centers. Within residential buildings, multi-family homes (MFH) are particularly interesting because of the economies of scale and their greater potential for emissions reductions. READ MORE

13. Small-Scale Decentralized Energy Systems : optimization and performance analysis
Abstract : Small-scale polygeneration energy systems, providing multiple energy services, such as heating, electricity, cooling, and clean water, using multiple energy sources (renewable and non-renewable) are considered an important component in the energy transition movement. Exploiting locally available energy sources and providing energy services close to the end users have potential environmental, economic, and societal benefits. READ MORE

14. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 15. Applicability of thermal energy storage in future district heating system - Design methodologies and performance evaluations
Abstract : District heating (DH) enables efficient and economical utilization of energy resources to satisfy the heat and hot water demands in buildings and is, thereby, well-established in Northern European countries. To achieve the future renewable energy system, the current DH systems are proved to undergo transitions towards the future DH systems, with major characteristics including renewable-based heat sources, low temperature networks, lower heating demands and smart controls.
