  1. 1. Energy Management in Large scale Solar Buildings : The Closed Greenhouse Concept

    Author : Amir Vadiee; Viktoria Martin; Philip Griffiths; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal Energy Storage; Energy Saving; Thermoeconomic Assessment; Energy Management Scenario; Micro Climate Control; Solar Building; Closed Greenhouse; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Sustainability has been at the centre of global attention for decades. One of the most challenging areas toward sustainability is the agricultural sector. Here, the commercial greenhouse is one of the most effective cultivation methods with a yield per cultivated area up to 10 times higher than for open land farming. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump Systems

    Author : Corey Blackman; Eva Thorin; Chris Bales; Christian Schweigler; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sorption heat pump; sorption module; thermochemical energy storage; artificial neural network; built environment; solar energy; gas-driven heat pump; solar cooling; heating and cooling; renewable energy; energy efficiency; experimental; simulation; analytical; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik; Reesbe företagsforskarskola;

    Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40% of primary energy use within the European Union, therefore reductions in the energy use intensity of this sector are critical in decreasing total energy usage. Given that the majority of energy used within the built environment is for space conditioning and domestic hot water preparation, prudence would suggest that decreasing primary energy used for these end purposes would have the biggest overall environmental impact. 3. 3. Transition pathways for future district heating and cooling systems with thermal energy storage

    Author : Yichi Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transition roadmap; bidirectional system; uncertainty analysis; Thermal energy storage; district heating and cooling;

    Abstract : Buildings’ heating and cooling account for more than 20% of the final energy use within the European countries and are dominated by non-renewable resources. Future district energy systems should enable efficient, fossil-free, and economical energy supply at operating temperatures that end users can directly utilize. READ MORE

  4. 4. Process Utility Performance Evaluation and Enhancements in the Traditional Sugar Cane Industry

    Author : Eyerusalem Deresse Birru; Andrew Martin; Catharina Erlich; Hailong Li; KTH; []
