  1. 1. Energy consumption transition : final household energy consumption in the case of Sweden 1920-2010

    Author : Mikael Levin; Lars-Fredrik Andersson; Ann-Kristin Bergquist; Thomas Pettersson; Bengt Kriström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; households; energy transition; energy consumption; residential; electrical appliances; Carbon dioxide; emission; ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis examines households’ final energy consumption over the long run by measuring their final energy use and examining how structural, institutional and economic factors affected the demand for energy in the residential sector during the period 1920-2010, a period covering the transition from traditional to fossil to renewable energy carriers. I believe that wider understanding of the historical energy transition and energy consumption within the residential sector might help us gain important insights into the long-run development and the factors affecting energy consumption among the households. 2. 2. Low-energy buildings : energy use, indoor climate and market diffusion

    Author : Johannes Persson; Stefan Grönkvist; Svend Svendsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building energy simulations; energy efficiency gap; energy use; indoor climate; low-energy buildings;

    Abstract : Low-energy buildings have, in recent years, gained attention and moved towards a large-scale introduction in the residential sector. During this process, national and international criteria for energy use in buildings have become stricter and the European Union has through the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive imposed on member states to adapt their building regulations for ‘Nearly Zero Energy Buildings’, which by 2021 should be standard for new buildings. Abstract : This thesis is a study of how energy use and air pollution in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have been affected by the economic transition after 1989. It consists of six articles, which examine three different aspects of these changes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improved Self-Consumption of Photovoltaic Electricity in Buildings : Storage, Curtailment and Grid Simulations

    Author : Rasmus Luthander; Joakim Widén; Joakim Munkhammar; Ewa Wäckelgård; Nicholas Etherden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Photovoltaics; Solar energy; Self-consumption; Grid integration; Distributed generation; Energy storage; Curtailment; Power system; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : The global market for photovoltaics (PV) has increased rapidly: during 2014, 44 times more was installed than in 2004, partly due to a price reduction of 60-70% during the same time period. Economic support schemes that were needed to make PV competitive on the electricity market have gradually decreased and self-consumption of PV electricity is becoming more interesting internationally from an economic perspective. 5. 5. Solar PV in prosumer energy systems : A techno-economic analysis on sizing, integration, and risk

    Author : Nelson Sommerfeldt; Hatef Madani Larijani; Björn Palm; Michel Haller; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrify everything; building energy systems; energy systems analysis; solar heat pump; investment analysis; Monte Carlo analysis; PVT; solar hybrid; Electrify everything; byggnadsenergisystem; energisystemanalys; solvärmepump; investeringsanalys; Monte Carlo analys; PVT; solhybrid; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : In the transition towards a sustainable energy system, building mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) have unique benefits; they require no additional land and the energy is generated directly at load centers. Within residential buildings, multi-family homes (MFH) are particularly interesting because of the economies of scale and their greater potential for emissions reductions. READ MORE
