  1. 11. Building-related renewable electricity production with storage and energy-efficient buildings : Exploring barriers, drivers and quality assurance

    Author : Anna-Lena Lane; Mathias Cehlin; Thomas Olofsson; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy efficiency gap; energy performance gap; ByggaE; battery storage; barriers; drivers; Non-energy benefits NEB; questionnaire; quality assurance; PV; energieffektivisering; energieffektiva byggnader; kvalitetssäkring; byggprocessen; ByggaE; solel; batterilager; hinder; drivkrafter; enkätstudie; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : There is a need to reduce unsustainable use of fossil fuels. Increased usage of renewable energy by combined use of photovoltaic solar panels (PV) with battery storage is one way. Another way is to increase awareness of energy usage and reduce the energy performance gap by building energy-efficient buildings. READ MORE

  2. 12. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions

    Author : Urban Persson; Sven Werner; Lars J. Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; district heating; energy efficiency; distribution capital cost; heat demand density; plot ratio; excess heat recovery; sequential energy supply; heat utilisation rate; effective width;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 3. 13. Solar District Heating for Low Energy Residential Areas : A Technical Analysis of Heat Distribution Concepts for a Solar Assisted District Heating System

    Author : Martin Andersen; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Other Environmental Engineering; Energy Systems; District heating; simulation; renewable energy; solar thermal; 4DH; SHINE; SHINE;

    Abstract : The integration of a solar thermal system into a district heating network can be a cost-effective solution, especially for new low-energy residential areas. Because of this, many new small solar district heating systems are built at the same time as the buildings, allowing for a more holistic approach to the design and construction. READ MORE

  4. 14. Transition pathways for future district heating and cooling systems with thermal energy storage

    Author : Yichi Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transition roadmap; bidirectional system; uncertainty analysis; Thermal energy storage; district heating and cooling;

    Abstract : Buildings’ heating and cooling account for more than 20% of the final energy use within the European countries and are dominated by non-renewable resources. Future district energy systems should enable efficient, fossil-free, and economical energy supply at operating temperatures that end users can directly utilize. READ MORE

  5. 15. Buildings as thermal energy storage – Pilot test and large-scale implementation for district heating systems

    Author : Johan Kensby; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Space heating; Heat load; Heat demand; District heating; Thermal energy storage; Demand side management; Buildings;

    Abstract : Heat loads in a district heating system can exhibit significant variations within a single day, which sets problematic conditions for efficient heat generation. Short-term thermal energy storage (TES) can decrease these daily variations and make the conditions for generating heat more favorable. READ MORE
