  1. 21. Transition pathways for future district heating and cooling systems with thermal energy storage

    Author : Yichi Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transition roadmap; bidirectional system; uncertainty analysis; Thermal energy storage; district heating and cooling;

    Abstract : Buildings’ heating and cooling account for more than 20% of the final energy use within the European countries and are dominated by non-renewable resources. Future district energy systems should enable efficient, fossil-free, and economical energy supply at operating temperatures that end users can directly utilize. READ MORE

  2. 22. Natural resources and sustainable energy : Growth rates and resource flows for low-carbon systems

    Author : Simon Davidsson; Mikael Höök; Gert Jan Kramer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-carbon technology; renewable energy; energy transitions; critical materials; energy metals; material flows; net energy; EROI; life cycle assessment; LCA; growth curves; curve fitting; resource depletion; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : Large-scale deployment of low-carbon energy technologies is important for counteracting anthropogenic climate change and achieving universal energy access. This thesis explores potential growth rates of technologies necessary to reach a more sustainable global energy system, the material and energy flows required to commission these technologies, and potential future availability of the required resources. 3. 23. Applicability of thermal energy storage in future district heating system - Design methodologies and performance evaluations

    Author : Yichi Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low-temperature district heating; demand-side management; low energy buildings; Thermal energy storage; district heating; variable renewable energy;

    Abstract : District heating (DH) enables efficient and economical utilization of energy resources to satisfy the heat and hot water demands in buildings and is, thereby, well-established in Northern European countries. To achieve the future renewable energy system, the current DH systems are proved to undergo transitions towards the future DH systems, with major characteristics including renewable-based heat sources, low temperature networks, lower heating demands and smart controls. 4. 24. Energy Efficiency in Shopping Malls : Some Aspects Based on a Case Study

    Author : Sofia Stensson; Jan-Olof Dalenbäck; Per Fahlén; Monica Axell; Jeffrey Spitler; Sweden Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shopping mall; energy use; energy efficiency; HVAC system; load patterns; case study; regulatory requirements; building code; and energy declarations;

    Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40 percent of our energy use. To reach existing environmental targets energy use will have to be reduced in all building types. At the European level, the main legislative instrument for improving the energy efficiency of the building stock is the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). READ MORE

  5. 25. Solar District Heating for Low Energy Residential Areas : A Technical Analysis of Heat Distribution Concepts for a Solar Assisted District Heating System

    Author : Martin Andersen; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Other Environmental Engineering; Energy Systems; District heating; simulation; renewable energy; solar thermal; 4DH; SHINE; SHINE;

    Abstract : The integration of a solar thermal system into a district heating network can be a cost-effective solution, especially for new low-energy residential areas. Because of this, many new small solar district heating systems are built at the same time as the buildings, allowing for a more holistic approach to the design and construction. READ MORE
