  1. 1. Embedded Systems and FPGAs for Implementation of Control Oriented Models, Applied to Combustion Engines

    Author : Carl Wilhelmsson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : NOx; NO; Nitrogen Oxides; Emissions; Air pollution; Algorithms; Physical model; Mathematical model; FPGA; Field Programmable Gate Arrays; Embedded Systems; Micro-controllers; Engine; Diesel Engine; Internal Combustion Engine; Combustion Control; Engine Control.;

    Abstract : Performance demands put on combustion engines are ever increasing, e.g. demands on emissions and fuel consumption. The increased demands together with new combustion concepts increase the need for feedback engine and combustion control. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Aero Engine Intercooling

    Author : Xin Zhao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aero engine; CFD; porous media; coolant flow control; system performance; intercooler;

    Abstract : Establishing an optimal intercooled aero engine constitutes a coupled problem where the conceptual design of the intercooler and the engine has to be considered simultaneously. The heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics will depend on the choice of the intercooler architecture. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of Zonal Models for Analysis of Engine Knock

    Author : Shahrokh Hajireza; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; homogeneous autoignition; engine knock; Zonal modeling; SI engine; hot-spot autoignition; exothermic centers; wall heat transfer; application of detailed chemical kinetic mechanism of n-heptane and iso-octane; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem;

    Abstract : Autoignition in SI engines is an abnormal combustion mode and may lead to engine knock which is an undesired phenomenon in SI engines. It may cause damage and it is a source of noise in engines. Knock limits the compression ratio of the engine and a low compression ratio means low fuel conversion efficiency of the engine. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evaluation of a Variable Nozzle Turbine Turbocharger on a Diesel Engine under Steady and Transient Conditions

    Author : Ralf Barkhage; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diesel engine; emissions; transient operation; control system; fuel economy; variable geometry turbocharging; engine performance; variable nozzle turbine; supercharging;

    Abstract : The growing global call for reduced emissions and fuel consumption together with the market call for engines with higher power density and application-oriented torque curves can be met using turbochargers with variable geometry turbines (VGT). The second generation of VGT turbochargers is currently being developed and is starting to appear on the market. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Alternative Fuels for Internal Combustion Engines : A study of biodiesel, gaseous methane and methanol

    Author : Ludvig Adlercreutz; Andreas Cronhjort; Ola Stenlåås; Magnus Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gaseous methane combustion; spark ignition; single cylinder research engine; particle number; particle emissions; oil ash content; CO2; Green House Gases; engine testing; engine development; emissions; combustion chamber design; injector fouling; environmental impact; road transportation; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract :  This thesis covers some of the environmental impacts of internalcombustion engines running on alternative fuels. The focus of thestudies conveyed is the reduction of greenhouse gases and particleemissions, as these two factors are of great importance for the pathsthat road transportation is facing. READ MORE
