6. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry
Abstract : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset. 7. Creation and destruction of in-cylinder flows : Large eddy simulations of the intake and the compression strokes
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase engine efficiency by studying the flow structures created in an engine cylinder during the intake phase and the effect of the subsequent compression. The invention of the combustion engine has enabled three centuries of economic growth fueled by energy stored as hydrocarbons. 8. On-Engine Turbocharger Performance Considering Heat Transfer
Abstract : Heat transfer plays an important role in affecting an on-engine turbocharger performance. However, it is normally not taken into account for turbocharged engine simulations. READ MORE

9. Thermodynamic Simulation of HCCI Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis focuses on engine system simulation using thermodynamics and chemical kinetic models to investigate the performance and efficiency of Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engines for stationary applications. It includes the development of software as well as models for engine, turbocharger, intercooler, inlet and exhaust manifolds, wastegate valve, inlet air humidifier, inlet air heater and more.
