  1. 16. Development of hierarchical cellulosic reinforcement for polymer composites

    Author : Abdelghani Hajlane; Angelika Bachinger; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Abstract : Cellulose is an environmentally friendly material which is obtainable in vast quantities, since it is present in every plant. Cellulosic fibers are commercially found in two forms: natural (flax, hemp, cotton, sisal, wood, etc.) and regenerated cellulose fibers (RCF). READ MORE

  2. 17. Modular Hyaluronan-Based Hydrogels for 3D Cell Culture and Bioprinting

    Author : Michael Jury; Daniel Aili; Robert Selegård; My Hedhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; 3D cell-culture; Biofunctionality; Bioprinting;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture facilitates development of biological relevant assays for drug screening and toxicity testing. Compared to conventional 2D cell culture, cells cultured in 3D can more accurately mimic human tissues and organs and thus provide ex vivo data with potentially better predictive value for cancer research, pharmacology, and toxicology, reducing the need for animal models, improving experimental reproducibility, and reducing time and costs in drug development. 3. 18. Early Life Environmental Risk Factors and Gut Microbiota in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis : - More than a gut feeling

    Author : Erik Kindgren; Rosaura Casas; Johnny Ludvigsson; Thomas Abrahamsson; Robin Kahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Juvenile idiopathic arthritis JIA ; Gut microbiota; Nutrition; Autoimmunity; Rheumatic disease;

    Abstract : Background: The autoimmune disease juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in children, but the cause is not fully established. Only a small percentage (13–18%) of the risk of contracting the disease can be attributed to genetic factors, but environmental factors are believed to be behind most of the risk. READ MORE

  4. 19. Assessment of bio-based fuel ash effects on magnesia refractory materials in quicklime production kilns

    Author : Naresh Kumar Wagri; Britt M. Andersson; Markus Carlborg; Markus Broström; Matias Eriksson; Bengt-Johan Skrifvars; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refractory corrosion; ash slag intrusion; lime kiln; MgO refractory; coal ash; olive pomace ash; biomass fuel; crushing strength; potassium K ; silicon Si .; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Limestone is calcined into quicklime in lime kilns at temperatures above 1000°C. Heat is supplied through combustion inside the kilns, which are insulated with a lining of refractory bricks to mitigate heat loss and to protect the kiln from the hot, chemically aggressive, and mechanically abrasive environment. 5. 20. SOD1 misfolding and aggregation in ALS : in the light of conformation-specific antibodies

    Author : Manuela Lehmann; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Stefan L. Marklund; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Elizabeth Fisher; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS; antibodies; SOD1; disordered SOD1; patient-derived models; low oxygen tension; Immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene are linked to the progressive neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-associated mutations affect the stability of the SOD1 protein and promote its unfolding. As a consequence, disordered SOD1 species can misfold and accumulate into insoluble aggregates. READ MORE
