11. Combustion, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer in Oxy-fuel and Air-Fired CFB boilers
Abstract : The studies described in this thesis develop and encode modeling tools for the design and scale-up of oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers across a wide range of operational conditions. The modeling comprises fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer and uses expressions that are proposed in this work or derived from the literature, together with experimental data obtained under both oxy-fuel-fired and air-fired conditions. 12. Particulate Formation in GDI Engines
Abstract : The need to comply with stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy and reducing criteria pollutant emissions from transportation presents a major challenge in the design of gasoline Direct Injection (DI) engines because of the adverse effects of ultrafine Particulate Number (PN) emissions on human health and other environmental concerns. With upcoming advances in vehicle electrification, it may be the case that electric vehicles completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines ensuring zero emissions. 13. Fuel Mixing in Gas-Solid Fluidized Beds: A Computational and Experimental Study
Abstract : Fluidized bed technology has been commercially applied over severaldecades. However there is still a lack of knowledge that can provide adetailed understanding of the combustion process in fluidized-bed furnaces. READ MORE

14. Assessment of Experimental, Computational, and Combined EFD/CFD Methods for Ship Performance Prediction
Abstract : In today’s highly competitive market, alongside increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, the precise prediction of ship performance has assumed paramount importance for both design verification and operational evaluations. This thesis addresses the need for a comprehensive assessment of Experimental Fluid Dynamics (EFD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and their combination to enhance the accuracy of performance predictions. 15. Noise emissions from sustainable transport : A multi-scale modeling approach
Abstract : Noise emissions from transportation remain one of the greatest environmental issues of modern day. Inhabitants in urban environments are especially exposed, with almost 80 million people in the European Union exposed to noise levels exceeding the recommended limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
