6. Workpiece steels protecting cutting tools from wear : A study of the effects of alloying elements on material transfer and coating damage mechanisms
Abstract : The vision of this thesis is to improve the machinability of workpiece steels. Workpiece material frequently transfers to the cutting tools during machining, and the transfer layers then forming on the tools may give both good and bad effects on machining performance and tool life. 7. Tribological Aspects of Pneumatic Clutch Actuators
Abstract : A clutch actuator is used in a vehicle to transmit movement and force from the clutch pedal to the release bearing of the clutch. A pneumatic clutch actuator consists of an anodised aluminium cylinder, inside of which a piston, with a rubber lip seal and a PTFE guiding ring, slides. The system is lubricated with silicone grease before assembly. READ MORE

8. Protective Tribofilms on Combustion Engine Valves
Abstract : Inside the complex machinery of modern heavy-duty engines, the sealing surfaces of the valve and valve seat insert have to endure. Right next to the combustion, temperatures are high and high pressure deforms the components, causing a small relative motion in the interface. READ MORE

9. Alternative binder hardmetals for steel turning
Abstract : The goal of this work is to understand how the wear and deformation mechanisms of hardmetalinserts change when the cobalt binder phase is replaced with a dierent metal or analloy. The focus is on inserts for steel turning. The work presented in this licentiate thesisconsists of the rst steps. READ MORE

10. Tribology of polymer composites for elevated temperature applications
Abstract : Polymers as construction material are common in the industry. Although more recently the use of polymer composites in more demanding applications has increased, requiring more of them mechanically, tribologically and thermally. To enhance the properties various fillers are used, from common glass fibers to more advanced nanoparticles. READ MORE
