  2. 2. The regulation of muscle interstitial insulin, nutrients and blood flow in insulin resistant models. An investigation using the euglycemic insulin clamp and microdialysis techniques

    Author : Maria Niklasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; insulin resistance; skeletal muscle; glucose uptake; transcapillary transport; interstitial fluid; euglycemic insulinclamp; microdialysis; blood flow; vasodilation;

    Abstract : Insulin resistance, mainly located to the skeletal muscle tissue, is one prominent feature in thedevelopment of non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and further, associated withcardiovascular diseases. In this context the importance of blood flow for insulin sensitivity has beensuggested by regulating the delivery of insulin and nutrients to the target cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. Myocardial energy metabolism in ischemic preconditioning, role of adenosine catabolism

    Author : Mohammad Kavianipour; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Ischemic preconditioning; adenosine; purine nucleoside phosphorylase; microdialysis; pig; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Brief episodes of ischemia and reperfusion render the myocardium more resistant to necrosis from a subsequent, otherwise lethal ischemic insult. This phenomenon is called ischemic preconditioning(IP). READ MORE

  4. 4. Microscale Tools for Sample Preparation, Separation and Detection of Neuropeptides

    Author : Andreas Dahlin; Jonas Bergquist; Karin E. Markides; Robert T. Kennedy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Neuropeptides; Microchip; Enhanced microdialysis; Poly dimethylsiloxane PDMS ; Electrospray ionization ESI ; Multidimensional separation; Electrochemical manipulation; Mass spectrometry MS ; Capillary electrophoresis CE ; Microdevice; Microfabrication; Micro total analysis system μ-TAS ; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The analysis of low abundant biological molecules is often challenging due to their chemical properties, low concentration and limited sample volumes. Neuropeptides are one group of molecules that fits these criteria. Neuropeptides also play an important role in biological functions, which makes them extra interesting to analyze. READ MORE

  5. 5. Monitoring of extracellular substances after spontaneous and experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage

    Author : Magnus Runnerstam; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Microdialysis; Amino acids; GFAP; Iron; Apoptosis;

    Abstract : Even though survival is considerably enhanced after surgical treatment of an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), there is a critical period, which keeps the patient in intensive care for days or even weeks. Complications, such as vasospasm, ischemia and brain edema ultimately lead to further brain damage. READ MORE
