  1. 1. Broadening Horizons : The FMECA-NETEP model, offshore wind farms and the permit application process

    Author : John Ohlson; Bo Carlsson; Håkan Thorstensson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cumulative impact; risk; offshore wind farm OWF ; FMECA; kumulativa effekter; risk; havsbaserad vindkraft; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : Abstract  The permit application process for offshore wind farms (OWF) in Sweden conceivably requires a comprehensive and transparent complement within risk management. The NETEP framework (covering risks concerning navigation, economics, technology, environment and politics), based on a futures planning mechanism (STEEP) has consequently been brought forward as a structure for the application of FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) methodology to the permit application process of the Swedish offshore wind farm sector. 2. 2. Industrial Symbiosis in the Swedish Forest Industry

    Author : Anna Wolf; Mats Söderström; Magnus Karlsson; René van Berkel; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; forest industry; integration; industrial symbiosis; evaluation; human dimensions; MIND method; skogsindustri; integration; industriell symbios; utvärdering; implementering; MIND-metoden; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Forskningen som presenteras i denna avhandling anknyter till forskningsfältet Industriell Ekologi och då särskilt den gren som kallas Industriell Symbios (IS). Inom IS förordas att ett företag kan öka produktionen och samtidigt minska resursanvändningen genom att effektivt integrera energi och materialflöden i ett större system. READ MORE

  3. 3. MATERIAL EFFICIENCY MANAGEMENT IN MANUFACTURING

    Author : Sasha Shahbazi; Magnus Wiktorsson; Marcus Bjelkemyr; Christina Jönsson; Thomas Lindhqvist; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material efficiency; industrial waste management; manufacturing; Innovation and Design; innovation och design;

    Abstract : Material efficiency is a key solution to provide a reduction in the total environmental impact of global manufacturing, which contributes to avoid generating larger volumes of industrial waste, to reduce extracting and consuming ever more resources and to decrease energy demand and carbon emissions. However, the area of material efficiency in manufacturing has been under-researched and related knowledge is limited. READ MORE

  4. 4. Consumer Perception of Organic and Genetically Modified Foods : Health and Environmental Considerations

    Author : Maria Magnusson; Per-Olow Sjödén; Ulla-Kaisa Koivisto Hursti; Liisa Lähteenmäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Caring sciences; consumer perceptions; organic foods; genetically modified foods; food choice; health; environmental concern; Vårdvetenskap; Caring sciences; Vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : The aim was to study consumer attitudes to and perceptions of organic and genetically modified (GM) foods and factors influencing the purchase/non purchase of these two types of foods. Data were collected by two questionnaire surveys (random nation-wide samples of 2000 consumers, response rate 58% and 39% respectively) and one interview study (n=40). READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigation of nitrogen recovery from concentrated wastewater

    Author : Aubrey Beckinghausen; Monica Odlare; Eva Thorin; Sebastian Schwede; Ershad Ullah Khan; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nitrogen; ammonium; recovery; circular economy; wastewater; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Nitrogen recovery from wastewater treatment for fertilizers is a research topic that exists at the intersection of multiple topics important to the future of sustainable society. First, nitrogen recovery from wastewater implies a departure from the current methods of nitrogen mitigation, which involve nitrogen removal by conversion of various aqueous species to inert nitrogen gas.
