1. Extreme environments - Design and human factors considerations
Abstract : The starting point of this research is based on my experience at SICSA performing research and design for extreme environments, including orbital and lunar planetary facilities, disaster shelters, polar stations and offshore surface and submersible habitats. This thesis explores what aspects and issues of design and planning processes in extreme environments have to be addressed in a similar way and therefore may be used as a basis for further work toward PhD thesis to develop a methodological planning tool or matrix. 2. Early Stage Architectural Design Practice Perspectives on Life Cycle Building Performance Assessment
Abstract : Architectural practitioners can avoid negative social and environmental impacts of new construction by making decisions supported by impact quantification during design processes. However, most software tools developed for such quantification see little use in practice, especially in early design stages when decisions have the greatest influence. READ MORE

3. Managing high environmental performance? : Applying life cycle approaches and environmental certification tools in the building and real estate sectors
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis is to demonstrate and critically assess life cycle approaches’ and environmental certification (EC) tools’ potential for supporting decisions for improved environmental performance in the building and real estate sectors.Using life cycle approaches, the thesis shows that for new build and renovation cases aiming for low operational energy use that embodied global warming potential (GWP) due to material production can constitute a large portion of a building’s lifetime GWP. 4. Material metabolism of residential buildings in Sweden: Material intensity database, stocks and flows, and spatial analysis
Abstract : Construction materials are used for the expansion and maintenance of the built environment. In the last century, construction material stock has increased globally 23-fold. READ MORE

5. Urban Sound Planning - An attempt to bridge the gap
Abstract : Cities are constantly between transition and adaptation, where current urban development needs a consistent strategic solution capable of understanding and including the relationships between urban form, environment and urban life. Awareness of the quality of the urban environment is leading the vision on the resilience and sustainability of the built environment, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary urban framework.
