1. Studies of Volcanic Plumes with Remote Spectroscopic Sensing Techniques -DOAS and FTIR measurements on volcanoes of the Network for Observation of Volcanic and Atmospheric Change-
Abstract : Volcanism is a rich geodynamical process, closely linked to the origin and ongoing evolution of the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Humans have benefited from the resources provided by volcanoes but also been threatened by the dangers of volcanic eruptions, which accurate prediction remains elusive. READ MORE

2. Application of Passive DOAS for Studies of Megacity Air Pollution and Volcanic Gas Emissions
Abstract : Optical Remote Sensing Techniques offer the opportunity to, in real-time, obtain line averaged measurements of gases in the lower and upper atmosphere. These techniques easily offer themselves to automatization, which increases their usability for e.g. READ MORE

3. The adsorption of arsenic oxyacids to iron oxyhydroxide columns : including studies of weakly hydrated ions and molecules in aqueous solution
Abstract : The fundamental side of this project includes determination of ionic radii and plausible hydration numbers for the weakly hydrated alkali metal ions in solution, as well as an investigation of the intramolecular bond lengths of arsenic oxyacid species and orthotelluric acid. Experimental methods such as EXAFS, XANES and LAXS have been used for these purposes, as well as thorough screening for relevant structures in crystal structure databases. READ MORE

4. Estimation of forest parameters using 3D satellite data : stereogrammetry, radargrammetry and interferometry
Abstract : Accurate data about the forest are needed both in climate research and forest management planning. This thesis focuses on using different types of three-dimensional (3D) satellite data sources to accurately estimate forest variables, primarily above-ground biomass (AGB) and tree height (H). 5. Carbonation for fixation of metals in municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash
Abstract : The waste management is in need of a reliable and economical treatment method for metals in fly ashes from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI). However, no state-of-the-art technique has gained wide acceptance yet. This Doctoral Thesis aimed at assessing the possibilities and limitations of carbonation as a stabilization method. READ MORE
