  1. 6. Improving the biocatalyst. Engineering of fungal oxidoreductases and thin-film electrodes for improvement of membraneless biofuel cells and carbohydrate biosensors

    Author : Roberto Ortiz; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellobiose dehydrogenase; pyranose dehydrogenase; biosensor; enzymatic biofuel cell; carbon nanotubes; gold nanoparticles; direct electron transfer; flow-injection analysis; diazonium salts; self-assembled monolayers;

    Abstract : This thesis presents investigations for the improvement of electrical contact and catalytical properties of two fungal redox enzymes, cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) and pyranose dehydrogenase (PDH), with electrodes and the use of the prepared electrodes as carbohydrate biosensors and in enzymatic biofuel cells. The performance of enzyme modified electrodes can be improved in two ways, by modifying the bioelement or by modifying the electrode. READ MORE

  2. 7. Rhodothermus marinus: a cell factory : Exploring products and cultivation technology

    Author : Emanuel Ron; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rhodothermus marinus; Extremophiles; Carotenoids; Exopolysaccharides;

    Abstract : The unsustainable human impact on ecology and ensuing climate change necessitates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The largest contributing industrial sector is the chemical industry, due to its petrochemical dependency. READ MORE

  3. 8. Direct electron transfer based biofuel cells : operating in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Magnus Falk; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : biofuel cell; direct electron transfer; enzymes; gold nanoparticles; implantable biomedical devices;

    Abstract : I vår moderna värd är vi väldigt beroende av elektrisk energi som vi använder för det mesta i får vardag: för att lysa upp våra hus, generera värme, driva våra datorer och mobiltelefoner och mycket mer. Produktion av elektrisk energi har dock ofta en negativ på-verkan på vår miljö. READ MORE

  4. 9. Bioprocess development for biochemical conversion of lignocellulose

    Author : Ruifei Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignocellulose; strain engineering; stress tolerance; kinetic modelling; high gravity; scale-up; biofuels; SSCF; process development; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Abstract : Due to its low environmental impact and high maturity of the fuel ethanol market, lignocellulosic ethanol is a promising option for reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector. The characteristics of lignocellulosic feedstocks, such as varied sugar composition, low sugar density, low solubility, recalcitrance to enzymatic degradation, and inhibitors formed during thermochemical pretreatment, have so far limited the production process, and costs for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol are still high. 5. 10. Steam Explosion of Wood

    Author : Muhammad Muzamal; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; finite element model; Steam explosion; biorefinery; pretreatment; wood;

    Abstract : The rising price of petroleum and environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions has increased interest in alternative renewable resources. Biomass can be considered as an excellent alternative raw material. A biorefinery uses biomass and produces fuel, energy and value-added chemicals. READ MORE
