  1. 1. Approaches to soft drug analogues of dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors : Design and synthesis

    Author : Malin Graffner Nordberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; soft drug; dihydrofolate reductase; synthesis; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main objective of the research described in this thesis has been the design and synthesis of inhibitors of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) intended for local administration and devoid of systemic side-effects. The blocking of the enzymatic activity of DHFR is a key element in the treatment of many diseases, including cancer, bacterial and protozoal infections, and also opportunistic infections associated with AIDS (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, PCP). 2. 2. Surfactants based on natural products - enzymatic synthesis and functional characterization

    Author : Fredrik Viklund; KTH; []
    Keywords : Enzymatic synthesis; Surfactants; Antioxidants; Ascorbyl oleate; Polyethylene glycol PEG esters; Hemolysis; Transepithelial electrical resistance; Ionic liquids; Candida antarctica lipase B;

    Abstract : Surfactants are molecules that contain a water-soluble and afat-soluble part. They have important functions in productssuch as detergents, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and foods aswell as in many industrial processes. Surfactants are used onvery large scale, which makes it important to decrease theirimpact on the environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Enzymatic Synthesis of Alkyl Glycosides. New Applications for Glycoside Hydrolases

    Author : David Svensson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CGTase; cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase; alkyl glycoside; enzyme stabliity; enzymatic synthesis; enzyme immobilisation; surfactant; glycosylation;

    Abstract : The environmental problems caused by human interventions, such as the consumption of non-renewable resources and the emission of greenhouse gases are well-recognised. Calls have been made for immediate measures to develop more sustainable society worldwide. READ MORE

  4. 4. Enzymatic Synthesis of Functional Polyesters

    Author : Mohamad Takwa; Karl Hult; Pål Nyren; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Enzymes are successfully employed in the synthesis of different types of polymers. Candida antarctica lipase B is a highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of polyesters by ring opening polymerization. ω-Pentadecalactone is an interesting lactone due to the unique proprieties of its polymer (poly-pentadecalactone). 5. 5. Synthesis of degradable aliphatic polyesters: strategies to tailor the polymer microstructure

    Author : Jenny Fagerland; Anna Finne-Wistrand; David Kaplan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymer synthesis; enzymatic synthesis; degradable polyesters; peptides; scaffolds; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Key factors for successful tissue engineering are the synthesis and design of the scaffold materials. Aliphatic polyesters have been studied and often used as scaffold materials for tissue engineering. However, their lack of biological cues and degradation under high-temperature processing (e.g. READ MORE
