11. Enzymatic treatment of wastewater sludge. Sludge solubilisation, improvement of anaerobic digestion and extraction of extracellular polymeric substances
Abstract : The processing and disposal of sludge from wastewater treatment plants is an important topic of increasing environmental, ecological, technological, economic and social concern. The large amounts of sludge produced represent an urgent problem today, new treatment methods being very much needed. READ MORE

12. Mitochondrial differentiation during the early development of the amphibian embryo
Abstract : Mitochondria from Xenopus laevis and Ambystoma mexica- num embryos between fertilization and the beginning of feeding were studied: the former with respect to metabolic behaviour, enzyme pattern and carrier activity, and the latter with respect to morphological parameters. The metabolic behaviour of mitochondria was studied by assessing the rates of oxygen uptake in presence of various substrates. 13. Improvement of Wastewater Sludge Digestion
Abstract : The reduction of sludge volumes for disposal is a topic of high interest for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) all over the world. Steadily increasing volumes for disposal create an economic, environmental, legislative and technological challenge. READ MORE

14. Microbial strategies for deconstruction of bark components
Abstract : Bark is the outermost part of a tree, and it is a protective layer against external threats such as microorganisms and environmental stressors. Bark consists of various polymers including lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and it also contains a large fraction of compounds known as extractives. READ MORE

15. Recombinant Enzymes in Pyrosequencing Technology
Abstract : Pyrosequencing is a DNA sequencing method based on thedetection of released pyrophosphate (PPi) during DNA synthesis. In a cascade of enzymatic reactions, visible light isgenerated, which is proportional to the number of nucleotidesincorporated into the DNA template. When dNTP(s) areincorporated into the DNA template, inorganic PPi is released. READ MORE
